    The Syncopated Times thumbnail
The Syncopated Times "It captures better than any studio release I’ve previously heard the actual feeling of being in the street and listening to the Indians play their songs. While they, of course, use the opportunity to record a smoother presentation then you’ll ever hear out on the battlefield they don’t add any of the extra frills other groups have. Drum, hands, and voice, that’s all you need. They also refrain from sanitizing the language or the beat to fit anyone’s sensibilities, it’s the raw thing." Favorite track: Drama.
    Eric Cross thumbnail
Eric Cross Not sure if I saw the album cover, which is literally fire or heard the fire, of the percussion first. But either way, this one required a vinyl cop. I would never come across these sorts of albums if it weren't for band camp and artists from communities not my own, putting their music online for music heads. Now about the music. It's the spark I need to get my ass in motion. The soul I need to keep pushing and the relevance I need to stay grounded. Loving me a trip to New Orleans someday. Favorite track: Shallow Water.
    WiLV thumbnail
WiLV I had a great time in New Orleans in March and listening to this brings it all back.

Favorite track: Yor Zarad.

    Summer thumbnail
Summer Angine de Poitrine, brings new fun and life into prog rock in both presentation and sound. I think if you like Cassiopeia you'll like them. Alternatively if you're transgender you will probably like them as well. Favorite track: Ababa Hotel.
    sassychicken17 thumbnail
sassychicken17 This album breaks my brain in the best of ways. From the innovative microtonal sounds to the time signature shifts, my mind and body are fully engaged with every track. Bandcamp has the audacity to force me to choose exactly one favorite song, but they are all great tracks! Favorite track: Ababa Hotel.

etp One of the best and most exciting documents of Butch's conduction - somehow this one maintains a sense of fragility amongst the control that's moving and oddly heartbreaking.

VLADISLAV GALKIN it is perfect Favorite track: Writing to someone else's music.
    Alexander Peterhans thumbnail
Alexander Peterhans I'm not always a fan of the combination of performance poetry and music - a lot of times it sounds like two pieces of music slathered over eachother, fighting for attention. Silva's record is not that - the specificity that's already in her poetry, is matched equally with taut electronica.

Easily my favourite record of 2018.

Favorite track: Puffer Jacket & Sushi.
    Art Fin thumbnail
Art Fin Experimental poetry and sputtering vocalizations over minimalist, avant-garde music. It wasn't an easy listen on first listen but on second try I understood this grower much better. Favorite track: Blank.
    Gavin Hellyer thumbnail
Gavin Hellyer Hannah's been a writer and sound poet for quite some time. She has received awards for her work in these fields, and now we have this extraordinary cross-over recording. She uses spoken word language uniquely and works with and against a soundtrack of electronics, drums and a cello. But it is both an awesome clash and brilliantly cohesive all at once. Buy this, you won't believe it. Favorite track: Bone Ladder.

getrekt456 The first track by OME I ever heard was Microfiche. It was so different from any rap I'd ever heard and I genuinely liked the flow so much. This whole ep is godly. Favorite track: Microfiche.

bassguitar81 the phrasings, the beats when the bass drops in my headphones on Relatable, the concepts per song, the melodies over every beat, this is genuine art

Jascha Narveson Sax + Tuba + Drum set + ANOTHER Drum set? What's not to love, here?

I inhaled the Sons Of Kemet discography after hearing Shabaka Hutchings sit in with the Art Ensemble of Chicago, where he blew the house away with this one solo. This band is a great vehicle for his playing: tuba and double-drums provide ample energy but don't occupy the same sonic space, letting him shine. "Play Mass" feels like an obvious choice, but when it hits that refrain it re-wires my brain a bit. Favorite track: Play Mass.
    Levrikon thumbnail
Levrikon My favorite albums of 2015, #15
Just incredible. A whole new shape for jazz. I've never heard anything like it before. The combo of two drummers, sax, and tuba is totally unique and the sounds they get out of those instruments are transcendent. Favorite track: The Long Night Of Octavia E Butler.

ericburkley Went to college at UMD-College Park and Oddisee and the rest of the MMG had a hold on those of us looking for great music. Nostalgia and the beats still hold up. Salaam. Favorite track: Live From The Drawing Board.
    Alexander thumbnail
Alexander You'd understand if you saw him live. The dude is a true legend. Favorite track: The Breakthrough.
    Mohan Thomas thumbnail
Mohan Thomas Not just another beat tape. Everything on this album has the gravity of an anthem. The album tells the story of a day, and is pretty good evidence that instrumentals CAN tell a story. Really highly recommended.
