DistortionHead One of the best 2025 had to offer! I struggle to return as often due to the emotional weight I feel when listening. I didn't think this would beat her previous works, but hell, while a ballad centric project, it very well is in the discussion for her best work to date! Favorite track: History of Violence.
    myneighborbrotoro thumbnail
myneighborbrotoro beautiful, gripping, dark and intense themes with layered and fresh production. I can't say enough about how much I love this project Favorite track: Black Lazarus.
    Tom Colquhoun thumbnail
Tom Colquhoun 'People are dying while I'm playing dead; I'm fucked up in the head' - another album by a different artist, same year.
Backxwash is exploring personal pain through the lens of religious metaphor, radical theory and global injustice. There are recurring preoccupations from her previous work - overdose, greyhound buses, demonic possession. Her body of work is like a cloud of mirrors, reflecting emotional fragments; as the cloud grows we see more but it becomes more metaphorical and indistinct. Favorite track: History of Violence.

zakabboud One of if not the most harsh and extreme performance I've ever heard from Incapacitants. It's simultaneously screeching and piercing but with a destructive earth shattering low end that sounds like the guttural growls of some kind of giant beast. It's a constant explosion of destruction and ecstasy. It doesn't get much better than this when it comes to noise.

Jim Feathers i was doing my shift at burger king and my manager said i could play whatever music i wanted on the speaker so i decided to play this album (instead of the usual pop trash my coworkers play) but then all the customers came up and beat the shit out of me and i got fired and my bf broke up with me and i then i was arrested and got chemically castrated. Despite that, I will always adore this album because of its eerie yet ethereal cyber-dystopian atmosphere. Favorite track: Glacial.

sisujoel If I ever make it to Yemen, this is the music I imagine hearing on the radio.

I had the good fortune to see and hear El Khat at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis, MN. Their groove is such a great mix of Arabic based vibes with touches of World influences I totally dig. Favorite track: Ptiha - مفاتحة.
    Lavinie Cloutier thumbnail
Lavinie Cloutier Encore d'autres musiques du monde intéressantes. Je viens de passer à travers 7 jours de festival de film à Rouyn-Noranda. J'en ai vu de plusieurs pays.

vlaci Tough to pick one favourite track, the whole album is superb!
They gave an absolutely astonishing performance on Malomfesztivál in Orom Serbia back before the great pandemic in 2019. I have them in my heart since then. Had the pleasure to meet them and hang with the guys. Hope to see them once again live. Favorite track: Balagh Al Achbaab - بلغ الاحباب.

diane This record has quickly elevated to an album of the year for me and I’m often a slow burn with that sort of thing. For the lack of properly articulating the full artistic value deserved—Amir’s work is dynamic, moody, and lush, with strong individuality and lasting integrity. I find myself continually gravitating towards it for another listen. Don’t sleep.
