by Between the Buried and Me

    never-read-guitarworld thumbnail
never-read-guitarworld When I listened to this first I immediately thought of Ayreon meets deathcore.

Really is there anything else to say? Favorite track: Extremophile Elite.
    lapiz nexo thumbnail
lapiz nexo Absolutely fun, beautiful, fascinating, and god-tier. BTBAM continue to knock it out of the park. Plus, seeing this live is a cherry on top of this masterpiece cake. Favorite track: Silent Flight Parliament.
    Sinbanshee thumbnail
Sinbanshee Endlessly pushing the bounderies of progressive metal, BTBAM never misses and this album especially proves that. Favorite track: Silent Flight Parliament.

  2. The Human Equation
    by Ayreon
    supported by
     thumbnail
A truly epic, grandiose album of prog metal. A concept album about a man in a coma, battling his inner demons shouldn't be this good! Favorite track: Day Two: Isolation.
    jjischristian thumbnail
jjischristian This is one of my absolute first prog metal albums... and it's definitely the first time I heard something quite so interesting. It took a long time to digest this but it left a mark. Favorite track: Day Three: Pain.
    Nocturnal Egg (Jordan) thumbnail

Favorite track: Day Four: Mystery.
    Zet thumbnail
Zet I listened to this album a zillion times in my late teens. It has been a great inspiration for my own music - especially Campfire Story. :) Favorite track: Day Four: Mystery.

  3. Equilibrium
    by Mendel
    supported by
    John Matzakos thumbnail
John Matzakos This album is just exquisite. The compositions are combining really well metal and symphonic music, both of which I love. All the elements serve the songs and the music, which I think is essential. I hope Mendel keeps exploring this sound. Favorite track: Beyond The Journey.
    unidual thumbnail
unidual The first two tracks are more than promising.

Mendel excels at combining melodies, huge riffs and intricate details.
Vocal-less, but more telling than most!

I'm also very curious how a track titled "Harpzchord" will sound like.
    carmilla_ thumbnail
carmilla_ I was already fan of Mendel's work. This album just blew all my expectations !
I really love the theme and I totally enjoy the orchestral vibe added here. Double hit combo !

Juste keep exploring that musical path, because I'm totally buying it !
I've been enjoying the whole album so far. Can't pick a favorite yet.

    by VOLA
    supported by
    gatko thumbnail
gatko Strong opening song that leads to an epic closer leaving you inspired and awe-struck. Never once did it feel like any of the tracks were fillers to reach the end. One of VOLA's best and memorable works. Favorite track: The Same War.
    Tony B! thumbnail
Tony B! Never heard of this band until this came on Liquid Metal...now I'm hooked and hope they come back to the states soon. Favorite track: Stray The Skies.
    stuiterveer thumbnail
stuiterveer This album is a mess; it's chaotic, it's loud, it has conflicting sounds. And I unapologetically and wholly love the beautiful mess that it is!

The bass and jazz elements scratch such a giant itch for me that I simply couldn't resist. If you need to stay awake, make this album part of your playlist. Favorite track: Your Mind Is A Helpless Dreamer.

  5. Risen From The Ashes
    by Marc Pattison
    supported by
    808stevan thumbnail
808stevan I am not a fan of metal, at all, but if I were, this is the type of artistry that I would follow. Well produced and cleanly mastered, easy on the ears like listening to Baroque violinists. Not intrusive or pretentious. Glamorous and devilish at the same time. As a recording guitarist, I salivate over the clean riffs that I can only dream of mastering. There is a Satriani-esque seasoning, just a kudo to how great the composer actually is. Cheesy graphics--no indication of the contents. Favorite track: SpaceJam 2015.

    Redgit thumbnail
Redgit Being destroyed internally by your love for someone is a uniquely twisted existence.

Compounding with self-destructive tendencies and a perversely negative outlook on life you begin to slip into nihilism, and start to float away into the endless abyss, yearning.

This album helped me accept that it is OK to lean on someone, or someones. Hurting yourself inadvertently hurts the ones that hold you close too.

My love for them may not ever fully fade, but neither will I.

    “Forever marked” Favorite track: Devaluation.
    gabestop thumbnail
gabestop this album made me appreciate layering in music, i swear this is one of the best produced albums of all time Favorite track: Slander.
    SlashedSucubus thumbnail
SlashedSucubus Alright, you guys said that you pushed yourselves beyond your limits for this one, and let me tell you that it shows. Such a great album, it absolutely reminds me of Wake, feels like you're revisiting your roots and I really don't mind. Keep up the great work, I can't wait to hear the next one! Favorite track: Parasitic Cleanse.

archerliam Man I’m Loving this release. My favourite Crats album since Tres Caballeros. Some really special melodies and delightfully twisted influences shine through. I went with Slideshow as my favourite… Marco’s interpretation and Bryan’s thoughtful playing are fucking amazing. The best part is that it’s written by Guthrie. Active listening at its finest! Favorite track: Slideshow.
    Centrlscrutinizer thumbnail
Centrlscrutinizer Favorite track - It may be "Here Come the Builders", but it's early yet. Subject to change without notice. The gray area betwixt my ears is seriously digging all of it at the moment.

Thomas Anderson This is such a beautiful album! I absolutely loved it from the first moment I heard it. The opener is so epic and sets a great mood for the rest of the album. The theme of relationships and domestic violence is very interesting. Favorite track: Fantasy.

    Archmage Orladin thumbnail
Archmage Orladin Great album overall, but it's high point is Merkabah. After that the album kind of loses steam and feels a bit anti-climatic, energy wise. Too much instrumental play time for the rest of the album. In my view this stops it from being truly a great album, but it's still damn good. Favorite track: Merkabah.
    Ippocalyptica thumbnail
Ippocalyptica In just a sentence, Metanoia is the greatest progressive death metal album of the past 10 years, and it is just that simple.
    RHAL thumbnail
RHAL Great riffs, very good prog. Extremely high production value. Lots of fun to listen to, Persefone always brings some mind-bending riffs to the table. Favorite track: Katabasis.
