  1. At The Heart Of Winter

Rabbit Abbath certainly proved himself the superior songwriter with this album: easily the best of Immortal's discography. Favorite track: Withstand The Fall Of Time.
    sashavonkarl74 thumbnail
sashavonkarl74 Simply the Opus Magnum of the Immortal era with Abbath! Favorite track: Where Dark And Light Don't Differ.
    Sid thumbnail
Sid I love Immortal and this album. The fantasy world and its lore is what really drew me onto this band when every other band was following the trend of trying to be edgy satanic kvlt lords.

This band on the other hand just dished out top quality black metal meanwhile every other band were just releasing music just to release music and be edgy.

The album has a raw sound, but doesn't sound like crap. More bass would be nice, but it is still a very enjoyable album.

Favorite track: Withstand The Fall Of Time.

furtherdowncol Wow I absolutely love this modification of the Ulver lore! Ambient / new age / trip hop / electronica? Cool sounds, fantastic grooves. Excited to see what's next! Favorite track: Horses of the Plough.

Alice M. Maybe I’m weird, but this kind of stuff is what it takes to make me want to dance. Full of intriguing sounds and engaging rhythms.

scott O))) I love Ulver and I cannot recommend this album enough. They still continue to innovate their sound to this day. One of my faves of the year already.

Püttkieker My Favorite Samael Album. IMHO their best. Totally different from "Blood Ritual" , which I also like. They totally lost me with "Passage" and everything after that. Anyway, you know that an album is exceptional, when you have a hard time to pick a favorite track. Lyric wise I'll settle for "To our Martyrs". Favorite track: To Our Martyrs.
    Ippocalyptica thumbnail
Ippocalyptica Tied with Passage as the best Samael album, I cannot overstate how much I listened to Ceremony of Opposites back in the day, and how well it holds up today against any mid-tempo black metal. This was Samael’s last foray into “traditional” metal before they went on to masterfully blend different genres on Passage, and if you listen to these two albums in succession, they almost play perfectly as a double-length concept album. Heavy, chills-inducing, and hypnotic, this is one of the 90’s best! Favorite track: Flagellation.
    sashavonkarl74 thumbnail
sashavonkarl74 My very first SAMAEL album, Thank you otog for buying this one and reminding me of them 🤘🏻🤘🏻 I was "young and naive" when I first listened to them, and aside from Celtic Frost, Samael was the first Swiss band that shocked me with their lyrics ... "the blessed whore and her bastard son..."... that may have started my anti-christian musical campaign :)) Favorite track: To Our Martyrs.

JDMP unfortunate that this is little known. punishing doom with all sorts of experimental and psychedelic leanings. some songs border on occult ritualism; some songs do nothing but deluge you with distortion. it’s good

Obsidian One Melodic black metal from Sweden, with '12th Rising' and 'Into The Cold Voids Of Eternity' as standout tracks. I used to own this CD but forgot it in the seatback pocket on a flight to Korea. Nice to have it back in my collection.
    sashavonkarl74 thumbnail
sashavonkarl74 What I love about this album is what many did criticize about it: it is a bit too reminiscent of Dissection. Yeah, so what? Dissection was one of my all time favorite bands, until that unfortunate event transpired. Then 10 yrs later Reinkaos appeared and it was a re-blessing, then "pouf, Dissection is gone", for real. That said, having a band with that great Swedish melo-black sound is very well appreciated, and I decided to embrace it. Would get "Cerecloth" here as well if I could! Favorite track: 12th Rising.

Obsidian One Another solid melodic black metal album from Sweden. Diabolical also has some catchy and memorable riffs, my favorite release by Naglfar.
    sashavonkarl74 thumbnail
sashavonkarl74 Much like "Diabolical", Naglfar's magnificent album, "Vittra" is also too often underrated and overlooked. When speaking about melodic BM, Dissection's Storm is brought up, but rarely these guys, yet they produced some of the best melodic black metal, ever. "Diabolical" remains my all-time favorite, but this one was also re-mastered by Dan "The Man" Swanö, and it's gold. It also includes a bonus track (12th Rising - demo version) which is my favorite in "Diabolical". A must-have, period. Favorite track: Through The Midnight Spheres.
