hoopboyhandro Amazing atmosphere and a unique sound palette with the rhythm section being the center piece. Tortoise's self titled feels to me like it lives in it's own ethereal plane Favorite track: On Noble.

Smiley McGrouchpants Jr. Listening to Nine Inch Nails' "Year Zero" and "The Slip" really helps with this. Ditto "Flying Saucer Attack," s/t.

John Cratchley This is where it started...and it still feels like a breath of fresh air!
After all these years it is difficult music to pin down stylistically (the whole point,really) because of the vast range of musical references it accesses.
Yet it is wholly original and of itself...a perfect launch and trajectory for all that was to come.

Ghuughra Not sure what I was expecting, but I'm certainly not disappointed. Groovy and chill, with occasional excursions into avant-noise territory. And not a singer in sight (good).

Not a listen-everyday type release, but still a solid addition to the collection. Favorite track: Promenade à deux.

Lord Dubious A kinder, gentler Tortoise for '25. I like how it picks up some steam towards the end. Got some their prettiest stuff since "It's All Around You" on it. Dig! Favorite track: Rated OG.

yakuzadog14 I almost shouted "that was live?!?!?" when I heard the crowd applause at the end of Daves. I can't overstate how precise these guys are despite having no composed material. Everything is performed flawlessly yet the music is far from sterile or unimaginative. The band will often explore a groove, but the contours of that groove change as the band makes their way through it. Records don't often leave me struggling to come up with any analogues the way this one has. AOTY contender. Favorite track: Daves.

auroraboreal one of the best albums I've ever listened to. truly innovative!

Ex-Friendly The shadow of Can is strong here but there is also the heavy odours of jazz and electronica inside these repetitions and melodies. Excellent release! Favorite track: Search Bar Hi Hat.

Mohaski SML's music sometimes makes me cry with joy. It is so singular in it's beauty and wit - otherworldly and futuristic, and yet, so familiar and perfect for today.. The most unique, and therefore the best LP I've heard in 2-7 years. Artfully constructed and engineered as well. Fantastic jazz for this new century/millennium. Favorite track: Switchboard Operations.
