Mike / Avant Music News Abhaile is a three-track album that explores the concept of home with multi-tracked sax lines from Catherine Sikora accompanied by field recordings and electronics from Finola Merivale. Recorded over a five-year span as both musicians relocated, it is a contemplation on home as something one chooses or that is imposed, something that one travels toward as well as inhabits.

  1. Tetradōm
    by Quadvium
    supported by
    progdolphin thumbnail
progdolphin In the collision of these two thick-stringed giants, Tetradōm weaves and wobbles in delectable harmony. The role of bass in rock and metal arrangements rarely settles into that of the lead. But with conductors of this caliber on fretless, and extended-range bass devices, nasally slides, flatulent thumps, and snarling shuffles rumble about this airy but grounded soundstage. Without a single word, Quadvium conjures the esoteric nature that Tetradōm and its philosophy-inspired titles promise. Favorite track: Eidolon.
    Murphrygian thumbnail
Murphrygian More along the lines of 2000s era fusion a la Abstract Logix. Love the duo's bass work throughout, although this project (like other bass-led projects) can lean towards smooth jazz at times. I hear Eberhard Weber and Jaco P. in this recording. However, I admit I had different expectations going in, based on the names. Nonetheless, this is top shelf fusion by masters of their craft. Just don't expect much heavy metal from this project, it is definitely fusion.
    bmurator thumbnail
bmurator Dutch / US Instrumental Prog. Metal Fusion. After reading SDD's comments & listening to the availalble track, I knew I needed this! I have always loved a little bit of Animals as Leaders (I am convinced they would fare so much better! If only!) so... :) I am really looking forward to this! Highly recommended!!!

Edit: Wonderfully intricate music. That bass... :) Thanks again for your comments SDD! No faves! At least not yet! Highly recommended once again!!!

    simgate95 thumbnail
simgate95 One of the most creative albums I have ever listened to. Favorite track: Rot Moderne.
    Nocturnal Egg (Jordan) thumbnail
Favorite track: Lexington Delirium (feat. Tomas Haake).

    Alice M. thumbnail
Alice M. Found this because it was listed as a “related artist” for Kalandra on RateYourMusic – same drummer, I think. Except that… *this sounds nothing like Kalandra*. xD But it’s about as good.
Very prog-o-experimental, with its own way of being heavy, but surprisingly digestible despite the overall weirdness.
    Eden Porter thumbnail
Eden Porter One of the most exciting albums I've heard in a decade. Bits of Sol Niger Within and similarly brilliant. Buy this album. Favorite track: Chaos I : Untelligence.
    Krafty_Exe thumbnail
Krafty_Exe Just these lads live in Manchester and they absolutely kicked my head in, in all the best ways possible. had to come and leave a review, brilliant album from start to finish, I'd bet money on these guys becoming huge, would pay great sums of cash to see these guys play with Car Bomb....eurgh Favorite track: Tokamak IV : Fluorescence & Entropy.

    Dmitry Nevozhay thumbnail
Dmitry Nevozhay Ron is a mad metal riff scientist, living guitar genius. He never disappoints. Enough said

John Woodward This album reminds me a lot of the works of Tigran Hamasyan, but nevertheless it's totally original. And isn't Tigran a great source of inspiration, anyway!
    Wedhro thumbnail
Wedhro Great songs, great solos, great musicianship. Favorite track: Dunuyeah Pt.2.
Can This Even Be Called Music? thumbnail
Can This Even Be Called Music? pushing the fusion of jazz and progressive metal even further, and without the comedic aspects his previous project had. The end result is one of the best modern djazz releases, featuring many talented and renowned musicians. One of the parts I enjoyed most is, rather simply, the theme to the title track. It’s rhythmically interesting, and uses a lot of wide intervals, making it sound very energetic, dynamic, and recognizable.
