    The Timbler thumbnail
The Timbler Wrote a novel to this album, the Return of Lucina became the official theme song of my own esoteric divine entity. I can't think of higher praise to give than this: it drove my imagination as I built a world. Favorite track: The Return of Lucina.

    lord_byleth thumbnail
lord_byleth Very good album, mostly inspired by Arckanum. Very difficult to pick a track as the album is very consistent with fast passages; melodic and melancholic one. Released in 2022 with a good production but with the inheritance from the beginning of BM. Great concept around a language I did not know before getting this album. Very strong debut album! Favorite track: Chôłpna Pùstosc.

    Lorenzo thumbnail
Lorenzo Intense and unrelenting black / death metal bringing a merciless edge to their lacerating onslaught. Brutal / slam facets are executed with bloody effectiveness, and contrast in an interesting way with the black metal palette.

The dual vocal styles, alternating between shrieks and deep growls, certainly set this apart from others in similar genres. They also add a fair bit of dynamics to the album, breaking up some of the overwhelmingly driven aggression that constant beatdowns the listener.
    minusoneman2 thumbnail
minusoneman2 A Malstrom of Blackend Brutal Death, took me a while to recognize how strong Throne are. Merciless and precious stuff full of blasts and Slam-junks but with sense for spookiness and drama here and there. Keep an eye on these guys! Favorite track: Born of Death.
    Tampertronics thumbnail
Tampertronics Crazily impressive, very serious, big feeling album, despite not being very long. Very modern sound with a BM influence. Can't get it off my mind. Favorite track: Beyond Malice.

hoursofthemind_ My man out here using blackletter gothic when he should be using Carolingian, maybe even Merovingian.

    Fun album though :)
    MrFreakins thumbnail
MrFreakins The riffs are relentless, the vocals fast and piercing, and the commitment to the theme is unmatched.

This album is intense, but still has a great atmosphere. The melodies ring through the raging swirl like a guiding light.

The small moments of acoustic guitar are like the eye of the hurricane, and the album ends with a calming ambient outro, to reflect on the journey.

    The storm has passed.

I've been obsessed with "Feohland" for months, so I'm glad I finally checked this one out.
    Favorite track: Danelaw.

I've never heard of this theme in black metal before but I really hope there's more where this comes from. A phenomenal record, lots of catchy songs and none of them worth skipping. FFO Vindalf, Keys To The Astral Gates and Mystic Doors, and Paradox' Mysticism. Favorite track: Cascadian Tactics.

schwilly666 Raw ass tremolo riffs with occasional clean breaks and very emotional tormented screams and singing Favorite track: I.
    laughing_chaos thumbnail
laughing_chaos Gorgeous black metal in the vein of Vothana or the BBH. Very atmospheric and very spacey. Puts you right in the centre of a glorious winter. Another great addiction to the Horrible Room canon. Favorite track: III.
    David Fischer thumbnail
David Fischer Once more thanks to Ultha's very own Ralph, as I would not have discovered ЗВЁЗДНЫЙ ХРАМ without him. This s/t is histerically good in each and every way: the sound, especially the guitars are deliciously raw, bleeding with intensity, vocals are fierce and tortured. In the best way reminiscent of Greek black metal apostates Sørgelig. Diving into this with focus and headphones plunges you in a maddening, torrential state of trance. Great tremolo, truly special stuff, and album of the year 2024! Favorite track: IV.

bcb723 Newer USBM solo projects these days all seem the same to me. So it takes something unique & seriously next level for me to even take notice nowadays, let alone take the time to write about it. But "Something Near" has inspired me. These songs make me feel the excitement I used to feel discovering a major talent. Also it's Jef Whitehead approved, with his influence across this album. The project is ending in October 2026 with a final LP. I have a feeling it will be quite the musical statement. Favorite track: AN AEON OF HORROR IN THE SHAPE OF A HOUSE.
    adangerousmeeting thumbnail
adangerousmeeting One time I ate a whole jar of pickles and farted bad enough to raise the dead. This band didn't even need pickles.

In all seriousness, this is one of the best USBM bands currently going. There is something about this recording that really reminds me of Horna's side of their split with Behexen. Favorite track: GUIDED BY FOG TO THE GRAVE.
    Björnen thumbnail
Björnen Haunt has been interesting to me ever since Wrest from Leviathan recommended the self-titled album from 2017 which helped me to even find this band. Favorite track: GUIDED BY FOG TO THE GRAVE.
