  1. Ethereal Horizons
    by Blut Aus Nord
    supported by
    Timothy Carr thumbnail
Timothy Carr Symphonic, bombastic, and completely over the top in the best possible way. They've transcended black metal and become something more: art rock. Proof that "avant garde" that does not always mean pretentious. Favorite track: Shadows Breathe First.
    Sean TPLTR thumbnail
Sean TPLTR Another masterpiece. Blut Aus Nord is an instant buy without hearing a note. Lots of subtle melody on this one! Favorite track: Shadows Breathe First.

  2. Dreams Of Blossoming Rust
    by Kommodus
    supported by
    HaroldAllnut thumbnail
HaroldAllnut This EP was mostly weird, lurching world music a la Dead Can Dance. I really dug it as an intriguing counterpoint to Kommodus's more traditional raw black metal output. Cool evidence that Lepidus Plague continues to evolve as an artist. Favorite track: Meditations On Morning Dew.

𝖒𝖆𝖗𝖗𝖓𝖆 easily one of the best black metal comps i’ve heard in ages. wergild should make these a ritual. Favorite track: Purged of All Southern Influence.
    Pauline Zipser thumbnail
Pauline Zipser My personal favorite collective of black metal reprobates. Listening to this is akin to the action of easing the base of a cold tuning fork deep into the urethra and giving it a stern tap. Favorite track: Acid Jungle.
    bmurator thumbnail
bmurator What a superb compilations this is! As has already been pointed out several times, the entire album really does flow very well indeed... :) I love Runeblade's version of Thrashy BM - it really rips! Thanks WERGILD! Recommended! Favorite track: Electric Armor.

  5. The Dreaming Prince in Ecstasy
    by Lamp Of Murmuur
    supported by
    VIV thumbnail
VIV Been listening to Black Metal for 15 years now, and this is the first album to recapture the euphoria I felt back when I first dipped my toes into the genre through Dimmu Borgir's Enthrone Darkness Triumphant.

This album is brilliant, dramatic, and brazenly original, casting aside conventions and proving Lamp of Murmuur as a master of the Genre. I'm excited to see what forms future releases will take. Favorite track: Hategate (The Dream-Master's Realm).
    molotov_bomb thumbnail
molotov_bomb I actually have no words other than thank you. wow.

chrismnyc Love the fat and raw-ish production style. Walks the line well between high production and raw black metal.

fetusghost I'm a dumb monolingual American, but I speak fluent Riffs, and Úpal has the best, most coherently insane riffs you'll ever hear. As a huge fan of all things extreme and dissonant, this album still stands at the top of the genre. If you know, you know, and this one remains in heavy rotation. Buy this, love this, tell Kostnatění he's pretty!
    pinkytheent thumbnail
pinkytheent A harrowing and driving journey of emotion, expertly dashing between dissonance and powerful consonance (as another person said) in a way that takes you on a scary-yet-smooth journey through ripping thorn thickets and out into a blessedly open clearing, before plunging you back into the thicket in your mad dash. The concept is rock solid, the non-Western scales are refreshing and are excellently hammered into both dissonant and non-dissonant moods, the songwriting is very well crafted. Favorite track: Slunce svázáno s krvácející Zemí (Sun Bound to the Bleeding Earth).
    黑之爱丽丝 thumbnail
黑之爱丽丝 If you call this dissoblack I'm coming to your house and beating you to death. Fantastic folk/black from an unlikely source, scratches the heavy Turkish guitar itch I built from listening to Hashshashin and Gabriel Marin. Favorite track: Slunce svázáno s krvácející Zemí (Sun Bound to the Bleeding Earth).

Tubuehlerosis Dark & mystical. Oddly enough, I hear some 90s era Swans in the swirl... Favorite track: Ekstasis of the Continuum.

    Metallurgical Fire thumbnail
Metallurgical Fire Medeia is correct, this is in the top 5 of 2021. It took a couple of years to hit me right. Inferno is one of the few bands that sounds different on every album, but in a way that builds on what’s come before. Astounding drummer. Favorite track: Stars Within and Stars Without Projected into the Matrix of Time.
