    phoenix_ac0 thumbnail
phoenix_ac0 Although not my favorite, Death Metal with Hard Rock song structure + drumming works surprisingly well, and gets very addicting after a few listens. Favorite track: Black Star.
    chaosworm thumbnail
chaosworm Such an mesmerizing and unique album that proves that Carcass can change it up without losing any of their prime heaviness. Favorite track: Child's Play.

Levrikon My favorite albums of 2022, #17.
The manic sounds of a sinister factory from a depressing Soviet cartoon.
    Rod Stasick thumbnail
Rod Stasick Good to see this tribute. Schaeffer's book, "Wstep do kompozycji," was something that, after discovering it, I spent many decades trying to track down a copy. When I found it, I traveled 5000 miles to retrieve it.

    Jono Schneider thumbnail
Jono Schneider Definitely the best Panopticon record that I’ve heard. Deep stuff, guitar playing is particularly excellent. Favorite track: The Great Silence, Extinct.
    Endless Metal Podcast thumbnail
Endless Metal Podcast This is an incredible album that for years I had been hoping for. It takes you on a deep, fully realized sonic journey where you can lose yourself in from beginning to end. I have spun it four times now. While I appreciate earlier Panopticon records a lot, for me, this is by far Austin’s best, most emotionally devastating album to date. A stunning achievement 🔥
    Ryan Johanson thumbnail
Ryan Johanson Holy shit. All the "album of the year" hype has been well earned with this one. Favorite track: Blood and Fur Upon the Melting Snow.

    featured track 00:00/00:00
    Unterm Glutmond Unterm Glutmond

    Adam Cohen thumbnail
Adam Cohen Dig around the underground enough and you'll inevitably unearth strange gems like this album. Otherworldly, menacing, orchestral and dynamically contorting like an epic fever dream. A triumph of music that falls outside established norms of the genres woven together herein. This will undoubtedly be amongst my favorite albums of the year. Essential listening.
    zeromoon thumbnail
zeromoon Witching hour vocals that become operatic, guitars that sting your ears like wasps. The riffs border on dissonant yet JUNON are not afraid to add melodic hooks. This is black metal as high art. Definitely going on my list of best albums of 2026.
    Fjelleiner thumbnail
Fjelleiner A successful blend of structure and chaos. Wild guitars, down-to-earth drums, and incredibly diverse female vocals (the likes of which I’ve never heard in black metal before) create an atmosphere that reminds me a bit of Galgendämmerung. The final track provides an ecstatic conclusion. Favorite track: Dolorosa.

    by Marisa Anderson
    featured track 00:00/00:00
    Quodlibet Quodlibet
    supported by
    Nickie Harte Kelly thumbnail
Nickie Harte Kelly Inspired by a 1952 Folkways compilation, guitarist Marisa Anderson has reimagined folk tunes from areas with which the US has been in conflict in the modern era. Besides electric, acoustic, and pedal steel guitars, you will hear accordion, violin, viola, and various keyboards. From Afghanistan to Vietnam, this is a thoughtful trip into the international language of music. Favorite track: Sarvi Simin.
    kitsuune 🦊💫 thumbnail
kitsuune 🦊💫 lovely, graceful folk gems -- definitely a milestone re: american primitive. Favorite track: Taqsim for Guitar.
    chuck p thumbnail
chuck p I keep coming back to this one. My 19th favorite album of 2026.
