shitbird_derelict_king NIN was one of my favourite bands as an teenager, really informed my taste and preferences. i found Xiu Xiu later but they'd eventually burn more lasting impressions and grooves into my grey matter than any other artist. as far back as Chapel of the Chimes, Xiu Xiu have covered many NIN adjacent artists and songs over the years, it's like they were edging an actual NIN cover. well here it's finally come. xiu xiu for life!!! Favorite track: Hurt 24 96.

boingloing This was an awesome showcase of everything I love about gupi's sound. Driving, fun, vulnerable, and technical. The emotional range of these tracks is really satisfying. It gets heavy and serious, then gives you a string of uppers, but I'm dancing the whole time. What a fun ride. Favorite track: bobsled.

    Dan Curhan thumbnail
Dan Curhan It's not metal (gasp!) but this is artistry that I fully appreciate - completely unfettered, charting her own path, and delightfully unpredictable without losing accessibility. A really enjoyable record.
    Eliud Vazquez thumbnail
Eliud Vazquez You know that animated gif of Charlie XCX of her strutting into a room saying "bumping that!" ? That's me listening to this album. Favorite track: MY TYPE.

SamuraiColorCutter Solid album from Sufjan Stevens. Easily the least-disruptive, and most-precisely composed album he's yet made. I've been following him since Come on, Feel the Illinoise and Michigan, and can say that his techniques have only become more refined since then.
    Jackie thumbnail
Jackie Still reliably delivering shivers after all these years.
    Jasca1127 thumbnail
Jasca1127 Sufjan once again takes his personal turmoil and turns it into something completely and utterly breathtaking. Combining moments of tenderness with moments of electronic catharsis, Javelin's sonic mood swings are very much welcome, while also being executed flawlessly. Favorite track: Genuflecting Ghost.
