Dave Aftandilian I suppose calling trance music “hypnotic” is a bit tautologous, but that’s the first word that comes to mind. Also powerful, positive, and hopeful—the last two of which humanity badly needs right now. (I also can’t help but think of some of the bembe rhythms I have heard from Cuba.)

tim abdellah The opening 17-minute suite of songs follows the sequence of the Rabat tradition, leading from L-Gnawi eventually into Mberkiriya and Fofo Denba, but with some additional melodies along the way. It's wonderful stuff. Favorite track: Sidi Mimoun.

Dave Aftandilian Dizzying examples of how in losing ourselves utterly to the whirling colors of melody and rhythm we find ourselves hovering motionless in the perfect peace of the Divine. Favorite track: Hadj Said El Guissi.

Emergence as a Means of Participation thumbnail
Emergence as a Means of Participation Blending synctophonic melodorhythms with palindromic vocal play, long thyme Midwest Emo house show staple & underground grabbag of basement soundscrapes and floral-choral passages, the amphibious Barreleye continue to imprez with a rerelease of their crackling crystalline classic from the late early mid quarter of the new millennium.

The limited vinyl release promises to be the kind of pap you give to your grandchildren after you’ve spent the last of their inheritance on research nootropics.

dialetc Warm and glimmering. How horses run; how a rainy street glistens; how the distant mountain looks infinite... you get the picture. Thank you Barreleye. Favorite track: Swip.

martelnine It’s remarkable how this band can disassemble and then reconstruct, rearrange, re-articulate and expand Monk’s music while still making it recognizable.
Another amazing recording. Favorite track: Round Midnight.

arcana The Organic Soul Machine Monks-up Monk. Outstanding! Heads be spinning. 'Bout time, too. Evidence kicks hard, like a giraffe. The world is fractured, and it is beautiful. Favorite track: Friday Thirteenth.
