  1. Saturnian Bloodstorm
    by Lamp Of Murmuur
    supported by
    David Fischer thumbnail
David Fischer Submission and Slavery was a capital raw black metal release, and as some others, the sound change had me shy away a little... more than would've been reasonable. Saturnian Bloodstorm is brimming with energetic, enrapturing, fantastic riffs; explosive, ferocious drumming; and compelling atmosphere. In Communion With the Wintermoon is in my eyes the best example for all these components coming together in the most natural and fervent way. Note to self: it's always better to believe in the artist! Favorite track: In Communion With the Wintermoon.
    HoundOfZeus thumbnail
HoundOfZeus Great album. I saw M. live in Munich last year and it was an amazing show with some songs of this album. Favorite track: Hymns of Death, Rays of Might.

KaranST Old school? doom? blackened? it has it all
Favorite track: Dispossessed in Rapture (First Wound).
    12breacher thumbnail
12breacher This band is growing at a stunning rate. A good veritable super group of doom-hinged death metal, the caveman rhythms and riffs pummel, then twist to higher level song writing than mere knuckle draggers do. They definitely out did their previous record, which was also awesome. Favorite track: I on the Knife (Second Wound).

is named for a fancy way
    to say 'spew', succeeds.
    Favorite track: Reveries in Autophagia.

    by Vastum
    supported by
    fyeahmetal thumbnail
fyeahmetal In a stellar discography, Vastum have delivered their most punishing and mind-flaying record to date. It is truly savage in a way that countless OSDM purveyors today are not - they get the outside trappings right, but not the inner turbulence that makes this album so powerful. The combined male-female death growls are perfect on top of the brutal rhythms. The album closer is a majestic feat of orchestrated horror that I'm guessing comes from the compositional genius of Leila Abdul-Rauf. Favorite track: Priapic Chasms.
    zirtonic thumbnail
zirtonic Cerebral lyrical themes and artsy, off-kilter riffing sit with perfect posture atop a solid OSDM foundation. Favorite track: Vomitous.
    Rafael.Profano thumbnail
Rafael.Profano Pure Death Metal, lot heavy, obscure, dark, cavernous, insane and sick songs!!! Favorite track: Stillborn Eternity.
    mbemboom thumbnail
mbemboom Quite possibly my favorite death metal album released this year. Sounds like Slayer and Incantation collaborating in a dark candle lit basement with a choir of demonic entities. Vastum's best release yet. Favorite track: Stillborn Eternity.

REPTILE SUN 😈 Favorite track: Reptile Sun.
    Shawn Fisher thumbnail
Shawn Fisher This album fucking changed me, man. I was stuck in an endless loop of shitty deathcore/metalcore mediocrity…and then for some divinely diabolical reason, “Scum Priest” showed up in my new music playlist on Apple Music. From there I obviously got huge into Dopelord, but also introduced to a whole bunch of phenomenal Polish bands. Particularly through the 4-way split. I owe my current renewed faith in music to Dopelord 10000%. Favorite track: Dead Inside (I&II).
    vantrees thumbnail
vantrees It’s a fantastic album. Top to bottom. Really hard to choise which is my favorite so I just picked Scum Priest. Plus creepy green album had to buy Favorite track: Scum Priest.

    myroblysiia thumbnail
myroblysiia One of my favourite black metal albums since the very first listen. It resonates with my energy so immaculately and makes me feel very "myself" if that makes sense. Please never stop making music...it's everything :D Favorite track: Heir Of Ecliptical Romanticism.

This is one of the most impressive bands I’ve ever listened. Everything in this album is perfect. It’s raw, melodious, incredibly dark and cold. This has to be one of my favorite albums of all time. Hails ! Favorite track: Heir Of Ecliptical Romanticism.

monolith85 Seriously, Just turn it up!! Let the kick drum pummel you while the bass gives shape to the beating.. Beautiful bass tone. Then the guitar signals your impending doom like an air raid siren. The vocals are perfect too! Droning into the cymbal wash and guitar resonance beautifully. With the perfects bits of feedback just when you need it! Awesome.

Abyssius Murkraken Quebec Black Metal at it's finest.
This band blends the traditional black metal riffs with a church-like quality.
Beautiful yet viscous, you can feel the atmosphere throughout every track. Favorite track: La Sainte Purge.

    maxlphillips thumbnail
maxlphillips This feels like being forced to listen to the album of the year through a thin, muffling film. The compositional beauty is consistently and pervasively mind-blowing – never letting go of my ever-pleased attention – but the recording quality almost castrates it. Despite that, I came out of this thoroughly harrowed; unrelentingly pummelled with gorgeousness to the point of complete cleansing and reinvigoration. Favorite track: Ghost Eyes in the Fire Light.
    Aimfri thumbnail
Aimfri I'm not crying, you're crying! Favorite track: A Culture of Wilderness.
    Joni Korpi thumbnail
