There is nothing but absolute elation when the needle hits the charcoal disk and the sounds of the Appleseed Cast enter me. It is auditory intercourse. This Record Store Day we saw the ten year anniversary release of Peregrine and it is nothing short of fucking delightful.
First off of the physical repressing is superb. A black sleeve with an embroidered reimagining by Maria Reichstadt of the original artwork created by Chris Crisci. As cool as the cover and sleeve work is the charcoal speckled record is amazing. Graveface is great at this. Every vinyl offering is different because they’re all hand poured, the hipster bliss runs strong. But enough about how rad the appearance is, let’s talk music shop.
Peregrine is one of those records that hits on every moment. The music effortlessly flows from atmospheric post rock to electronic noise to emo and I can’t get enough of it. The lyrics are truly interesting as throughout the tracks it tells the story of a girl named Peregrine whose father kills her, she comes back a ghost haunting him and driving him to his own death. This shit is epic. Everyone needs this music inside of them. Let the Appleseed inside of you.
