Effervescent and joyful jazz. I made a banana cream pie while dancing to this in the kitchen. The playfulness between the cello and the other instruments is grounded and bright.

Oo long! is the standout for me. Halvorson digs deep to produce the best homage to Sonny I’ve heard. Great, great record. (Do I hear a nod to Green Chimneys in the title track?)
The Tonearm
"[The cello] opens up endless possibilities because it can play so many different roles. I'm sure I haven't explored all of them—I try to explore as much as I can, but there are others exploring it in their own way, and there's no one path."
Strange Celestial Road
I lack the words to describe how monumental an achievement this wonderful album is. Buy it right now. It rewards repeat listens and only gets better with each play through. This is a strong contender for my best album of 2025!
Favorite track: Djinn Dance.

We all knew that something else was hiding behind that shy, spectacled, nerd-looking bassist and now the secret has been revealed. He was a computer scientist all along (besides being a terrific bass player!) Wow! This is such a revelation. Love the album and the surprise.

The level of operation both musically and academically is on another level entirely here. This will take many listens to unfold :)
Favorite track: Here (Gary Snyder).

Thomas’ music makes me feel more spacious. Thank you.

I've waited years for Thomas Morgan's first leader recording.
He's a genius, and this is brilliant.
And the physical CD is beautiful, as well. Bravo to Tal R, and Claus Due!
