  1. Beneath Hollow Hills

Dave Aftandilian Witan feels very special to me. There is a certain clarity of intent and focused emotion that comes through powerfully in all their work. For me _Beneath Hollow Hills_ evokes the wonder of the hidden places in nature: like a shadowed grove deep in a primeval forest, or a vast cavern coiled beneath the roots of the mountain where steady drips echo like the heartbeat of the Earth herself in a sacred place that exists outside of time. I feel enveloped, cocooned, reassured, renewed.

Jason Morehead One of my all-time favorite ambient albums. Vast, amorphous drones and deep pools of sound that are suffused with nostalgia and emotion.

My review: opus.ing/reviews/soft-ice-poemme-2017-stereoscenic-records Favorite track: the park at night.
    Arren thumbnail
Arren I wanted to fly away and migrate with the geese when I was a child. One time in the mid-aughts there were so many geese migrating at once that, in my memory at least, they blotted out the sky. I've never seen anything like it since. This track reminds me of that. Favorite track: southbound formations.
    Misha Cherkashin thumbnail
Misha Cherkashin I’ve listened to a lot of ambient music but something brings me back to this album every single time. I get teary eyed just thinking about it. Southbound formations might as well be the static of my life. I can’t thank her enough for making this album - thank you for making such wonderful memories, music and soundscapes. Favorite track: southbound formations.

trixipixel I listened to Tragic Magic last night for the first time while sawing and chopping wood by torchlight in our barn for the stove. I like all of the album and no doubt will become attached to favourites over time. What came across was how fresh it sounded, how the harp and voice shimmered together. I doubt if there were many takes, and I really like that. A very beautiful and unique collaboration and will keep an eye out for more, although this maybe a one-off and all the better for it. X

Dan Piponi During the course of listening to this album I went from "this is so not me" to "this is fantastic". So I recommend listening to all of it before deciding. I'm glad I did. Favorite track: Melted Moon.
    Wolf thumbnail
Wolf There is a profound tension here as a sense of trepidation clashes with intense and overwhelming beauty. Favorite track: The Four Sleeping Princesses.

darooo I'm not sure that was the primary goal of this release, but it's the most effective thing I know for fighting anxiety.
