Biographical information
Personal life
Graduating cum laude from the University of Washington, Chiu received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Design and Visual Communications with a minor in Political Science and Writing.[1]
Career
Chiu's career in the animation industry began on the 2017 Marvel's Spider-Man series; after seeing her portfolio and work on Tumblr, the show's production team extended a job offer to Chiu. For the next several years, Chiu would work as a storyboard artist, a job she viewed as the most creatively fulfilling in the creative field, full-time on shows like Glitch Techs, Centaurworld, and We Bare Bears: The Movie, and freelancing on the productions of Guardians of the Galaxy, What If...?, and The Legend of Vox Machina.[2][3] Even after completing her undergraduate studies, and taking classes from other institutions and experts in the field,[2][1] Chiu would go on to teach several workshops herself that focused on developing storyboarding skills.[4][5]
As a storyboard artist on the animated film KPop Demon Hunters, Chiu contributed to several of the movie's action sequences. Those contributions involved providing new iterations of scenes her colleagues had worked on, or including character beats that wound up in the final film; Chiu even developed her own boards and sequences based on unused story ideas.[6][7][8] Jed Diffenderfer, Chiu's supervisor on the project, later praised her for her passion and storytelling ability.[1]
