In Memoriam George B. Field

Professor George B. Field, founding Director of the Center for Astrophysics, passed away on July 31st at the age of 94. George was a guiding figure for our institute and a friend, teacher, and mentor to many of our members. In 2014, George wrote an autobiography for ARAA. Sean Carroll, Homewood Professor of Natural Philosophy at John Hopkins University, had George as his thesis advisor and recently wrote a tribute. A fuller obituary will come at a later time. Our condolences to his wife Susan and their family, as well to George's friends still on the CfA staff.
