A Hostage to Fortune, Part VI
Title: A Hostage to Fortune
Fandom: Naruto Manga
Pairing: Sasuke & Sakura
Rating: T/PG-13
Summary: When Tsunade's would-be abductors decide Sakura is a better target, the kunoichi finds herself facing the demands of Karin; to heal an incapacitated Sasuke. Never one to miss an opportunity, Sakura plots her former teammate's own kidnapping... err return.
Note: AU After Manga Chapter 404. Slowly complying to 412... Actually, contrary to this story's attitude, I love Karin. I only wished she wasn't some sort of parody to Sakura. She even has similar hair and powers as she does. Stupid biting.
Parts: PI, PII, PIII, PIV, PV, PVI
Part VI
The kunoichi couldn‘t blame his confusion, as he probably passed out from the poison in the middle of his journey. He looked around cautiously too, as if expecting the rest of Team 7 to appear.
Sakura could only wonder as to how he could possibly be moving. She knew he was strong, but that poison, while easily treatable, should have weakened him considerably. Unless he did get previous medical attention and Karin just happened to pick up a female mednin and the girl said the wrong thing. But, now was not the time to think such things...
Sasuke's puzzlement didn‘t last long, and the tomoes of his sharingan began to dance around his pupil. The kunoichi could see he had every intention to take her down. And she also noted that it looked, different than how she once remembered.

Sasuke's puzzlement didn‘t last long, and the tomoes of his sharingan began to dance around his pupil. The kunoichi could see he had every intention to take her down. And she also noted that it looked, different than how she once remembered.
With a gulp she averted his gaze and stared at his hands.
However strong she was, Sakura knew she wasn‘t a match of Sasuke. And… she hadn‘t released all of her energy from the point on his body. While she was handicapped, she also knew that Sasuke was severely weakened. While he made the act that he was fine, despite the subtle hints of exhaustion that was apparent on the face Sakura wanted to look at but could not.
But she had gone too far and risked too much to give up now and die, or even be taken captive again. She was strong enough to take on Suigetsu, (which, as Sakura noted, may actually be in due part of his refusal to drop that sword which he couldn't properly wield), so Sakura was willing to bet she could take on Sasuke... at least for a few moments.
It was all she would need.
Without any sort of prompt from her former teammate, Sakura lunged forward, powering a minimal amount of chakra into her fist, while powering more into her feet to increase her speed. Sasuke's eyes widened, but he remained calm, drawing the kusanagi.
Sakura knew she couldn't block the sword, and she had no intention of doing so.
Suigetsu's eyes widened in surprise, sensing a similar move to the one she had performed on him earlier. He shouted out a warning to Sasuke just as Sakura closed the distance between them. While she made a move to dodge, she still allowed herself to be hit by the sword, taking in a deep gash that she instantly healed.
The Uchiha's eyebrows rose, but fell again in anger as Sakura snaked her own hand over his arm, drawing out all the chakra left on his body as quickly as she could. It provided her an extra boost to heal her wound, but first...
She gripped the area of the arm where Sasuke was poisoned, sending back a little chakra into his system. She had laid this exact layout earlier... for this exact purpose.
But what she had been planning was too slow, and Sakura felt herself thrown off Sasuke and into a tree, feeling a few ribs break. As he neared her, intent on finishing her off Sakura only smirked. She watched as his stance wavered, and he fell to his knees, grabbing his arm.
Sasuke glared at her, that she could feel, but she wasn't fool enough to look him in the eyes. His body was going numb, and soon he passed out.
The leaf kunoichi knew that destroying his ego this much was going to cost her later.
She'd live with that. Bringing him back to the village was of the utmost concern.
Suigetsu stood, and began walking over to them, and Sakura knew the battle wasn't over. She mentally cursed herself for not trying to knock him out sooner.
She also felt a presence closing in, and it was probably Juugo. The leaf ninja understood she had to go, and now. She only hoped she could outrun them. Or outsmart them.
Suigetsu was smiling, and from the looks of it, both in humor and in anticipation.
“Stronger than you look. But when he wakes up next time, I don't think you're going to be so lucky.”
Sakura knew he was right. She'd have to use a stronger sedative next time. Her chakra induced ones were not enough. He had far more chakra than she did.
Her eyes darted back and forth while she contemplated her next move, looping Sasuke's arm over her shoulder. Suddenly, memories of the bell test flashed in her mind and she got a devious idea. It would be an awful waste of chakra, but it should unsettle both Suigetsu and Juugo.
She felt him near, and decided to blast the ground beneath them in a huge shockwave, enough to unsettle the trees and topple them over all around them. In the confusion she snuck up behind Juugo, but was surprised when he lashed out at her. For a moment, she was terrified. She could sense a sort of energy in him that unnerved her.
She disappeared in a flurry of leaves, reappearing behind him and far away. Luckily, she seemed to have the advantage of speed on him, but Sakura didn't have enough strength to fight. Instead, she powered her chakra into her feet, as well as a concealing jutsu over both her and Sasuke. Her remaining was spent on a few carefully made kage bunshins that she sent towards Sasuke's teammates, hoping they would buy her time. However, they weren't as carefully made as those of higher level nin. She didn't have but more than a few minutes.
The flurry of disaster all around them was enough to allow Sakura to get away, and in the distance she could feel them fighting. It would be only a few minutes until they figured out that her bunshins were fake, and pursue her.
However, now that she had fought them and shown she was more than a med-nin, Sakura had lost the element of surprise. Next time, she really wouldn't be so lucky. The kunoichi decided to throw them off, heading in the opposite direction from where she was headed.
However, she felt her chakra supply diminishing, and Sakura knew that she'd have to stop somewhere... and soon. Worse, the kunoichi could feel Sasuke's own chakra flare dramatically.
When she had touched the wound, she had injured him gravely.
But that wasn't as nearly as bad as his stirring.
He was going to wake up again, before Sakura even had the chance to get away, and before Sakura could even take him on.
