    I’ve been a Boox user since way back in 2019 (seriously? I feel so old..). I’ve had my complaints with their devices, but I keep coming back because they’re the best on the market if you’re looking for an eInk screen that offers a seamless “all the things” kind of tablet…the google play store really makes their tablets incomparable to competitors like Remarkable, Supernote, Kindle Scribe…the one major downside I’ve encountered with BOOX has been the delicate screens (I owned an 8 inch tab mini that cracked on its own…it was fine at bedtime but when I woke up, I noticed a hairline crack that spread into a really large crack that started falling to pieces eventually…it was literally sitting on my nightstand almost out of arms reach, so I either had a very rude ghost or it cracked from the pressure of the build of the device)…I kept swearing I’d never get another Boox tablet but I keep coming back because their notebook features are AMAZING and because of everything I’ve already stated above. I write fiction and this tablet can run Google Docs, Dropbox, word, etc AND connect a Bluetooth keyboard (take note, Kindle Scribe…no pun intended).

    On to the Note Air 5c portion of this review…The handwriting experience is perfect (it uses Wacom EMR styluses so this is obvious)…the inherent reader app is fine, it makes it easy to upload/take notes on PDF docs and unlicensed epub books, but I like to upload PDFs into the notebook app because it has the more full function note taking options and is easier to navigate.

    I’ve been using this daily since it arrived 5 weeks ago and I love it SO much more than every other Boox tablet I’ve owned (you can judge me, I judge me..I’ve owned the tab mini[<—this is the one that cracked], tab mini c, ultra c, Palma 1, Palma 2 pro, go color 7..in my defense, I always sell older generation models and currently only have this 5C and the Palma 2 Pro…they hold value like apple products so if you have an eBay account, this would be a good option for you, too).

    This Note Air 5C is faster than every other Boox tablet I’ve owned (except maybe the Palma 2 Pro, which is only marginally faster).

    I’m not big on writing reviews and I basically never write long reviews…I’m one of those karens who only reviews items that really disappoint. I bought this device thinking it would only serve as a convenient note taking tablet for occasional use…sold some of my older devices to cover the cost…but it has seamlessly secured a spot as an essential tool in my day to day life…I use it to read at bedtime, work on my novel after work, jot down notes and to-dos during work, read the news in the morning and even stream podcasts while I work with a set of Bluetooth headphones. The one and only negative is that the battery is only slightly better than an iPad battery…if you use it heavily like I do, you’ve got to charge it pretty often…if you only plan to use it for notes and reading, it might last up to a week, but I have to charge it daily..which is totally fine by me for all the use I get out of it.

    I felt obliged to review it because I saw a lot of really unfair negative reviews and I honestly adore this device (so much). If you want an eInk notebook and this one is in the running, it’s worth every single penny (or nickel once the penny is no more?).

I like to use this to track sheet music on the piano.

    With that said, the placement of the pen is insane. It hits the buttons on the side, and if you flip the pen in reverse so that the curve of the pen's tip misses the buttons (the obvious answer) then it won't stick well because of where the magnets are supposed to line up. How some design engineer missed this - or a handful of QA goons - is completely beyond me. They marketed a tablet that's supposed to be like writing on paper, then make it dicey to keep track of the pen. /golf clap

    Other than that, this thing is wonderful.

    It takes some getting used to for this. The UI is not intuitive and the app that goes with it is even less. It is taking some time to get used to how this does work compared to how I *think* or *wish* it would work.

    I like the features better than ReMarkable and Iflytek, so it is more useful.

    Operationally:
    I configured it to be fast and it has better responsiveness...but to what? When I use a stylus, it doesn't always "take." That is, it doesn't always see the touch from it so you may need to press slightly harder and slightly longer. Navigating this with the stylus is not glib. Now, once I started using my finger, it was much more responsive.

    For writing notes, it does a good job. It doesn't have the "drag" paper does but it doesn't alter your handwriting to much due to "slip."

    My conclusion:
    - Good for writing notes using the stylus. (4 stars)
    - Navigate with fingers. (4 stars)
    - Play with it to figure out how to move docs from cloud to it. (2 stars)
    - Batter life: (5 stars). It sat in a cold car for days and didn’t lose much power.

    However, the magnetic stylus has only two places to go: loosely attached to the side or somewhere else. I lost mine while carrying it in a crowd. (The folio [sold separately] has no means for securing the stylus either,) I ended up buying a cover for it just to hold the stylus.

    I don’t recommend buying the folio unless you don’t need to keep the stylus with the device.

    I had them all: iPad Pro 11 M5, iPad Pro 13, iPad mini, TCL NextPaper 11 plus. And I never used any of them. Until I got my hands on this device. Amazing! Screen stays turned on continuously because eink screen doesn't draw power. Writing experience on par with Remarkable. Can browse the Internet, read news, WhatsApp, deal with emails. Super thin. No idiotic camera bump on the back that would cause the device to wobble (all other tablets have a protruding lens that absolutely nobody uses and that causes the table to wobble when put on a flat surface). Eink is just a completely different kind of experience. But you need to take a few days to really get the hang of this device.
