more artwork..

Have you ever found that, after a bad day, you end up creating some of your best pieces? I do that all the time. Today is a good example. Really bad day. Just rather craptacular all around. So I get home, pull out my sketchbook to blow off some steam, and Collapse )is what I get. I guess it's because I don't pay attention to what I'm putting down on the paper, and just let my mind and my hands do what they want to do.

Hmm. If only I could figure out how to do that on command...

and for those who may be interested, Collapse )

Enjoy!! Again, as always, comments and constructive crits are always welcome.

i was sitting in the coffee shop, a bad conversation was coming to an end, among everything else that was running through my head was 'another coffee shop ruined for me'. another was that the noise in my head was matched by the beating of my heart and the background din.

there was so much that i wanted to say, it all tried to come out at once and got stuck in my mouth, so i didnt say anything.

i got up, left and threw the coffee i had bought in the trash and walked a block down to the bar where i chain smoked, had a few beers and did crossword puzzles trying not to fall apart.

more art up here as well...

. marilyn monroe + andy warhol + tattoo portraiture .

Aaron was asked to do a portrait of Marilyn Monroe for Jamie (one of the owners of the shop we work at- Boneyard).  She's pretty full of tattoos, so we ended up picking her calf for this piece because she's wanting to get Elvis beside Marilyn- and her other calf is still free.

<lj-cut>

The first machine was a 13 mag grey wash for the smoother blending in her face.  This was the first 5-10 minutes of the session.

This is the second machine- 13 mag color machine for packing in solid black.  This was about 25 minutes into the session.  Unfortunately, after this point, three ladies came into the store and I had to spend my time tattooing and piercing, so I missed out on documenting the color progression of this piece.  I'm hoping to catch the whole process with Elvis next time.

 You can still see some of the purple outlined stencil in her face, but those will go away.  Jamie was feeling pretty sore and rubbing those lines out wasn't something she cared to go through after a 2-3 hour session.  I'll take another picture when Marilyn is completely healed.

Wow! I have an ISBN! and an art show in Los Angeles coming up!

First off, in honor of the 5 year anniversary of my first published book, "Everything Dies", I release to you the second edition complete with an ISBN number. It is a macabre childern's humor book for adults and teens. You can check it out here: http://www.lulu.com/content/1256954. Soon it will be available at a fine online retailer near you. But for now you can buy it there for the same price. Get yours now... Just in time for Halloween!!!

Secondly, I have an art show coming up on Friday October 12th. Its a group show at 2nd Street Cigars and Gallery, which is located at 124 W. 2nd Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012, between Spring and Main. Free admission, but I do recommend carpooling to save on parking fees as there is limited street parking available. You can preview the show on Thursday the 11th during the Downtown LA Artwalk.

Venice. The storm over the lagoon.

During the first three days in Venice we were so tired walking back and forth all the time, so we decided to dedicate the fourth day on the vaporetto. For twelve hours, given us with tickets, we managed to go to Torcello, Burano, Murano, as well as a ride on the Grand Canal. With the canal, however, we've got little gaffe — hurrying, we sat on the right boat, but in the wrong direction:) So first, instead of having Grand Canal trip, we came out of the city and were in the lagoon. And at this point, in absolute silence and the complete absence of any rain, the sky cut through with lightning. Unprecedented beauty sight, I have to tell you...
