Art Step-By-Step

STEP ZERO
I start off with a blank canvas (derp) which I did not screenie. My canvas size is usually 4000x3000.

STEP ONE
On 25% zoom and on a new layer above the background, I draw basic stick figures/skeletons in the general pose that I want for my drawing in any color besides black.

STEP TWO
On the same layer and still on 25% zoom, I draw the basic figure shapes using the skeleton as a guide.

STEP THREE
I lower the opacity of the first layer to 50%, choose a different color (I just chose a slightly darker one this time) , and start sketching on a new layer, now zoomed in to 100%. No clothes yet, just the body. Face and hair are also included in this step. Note that I lock previous sketch layers as I go because I always accidentally start drawing on them.

STEP FOUR
Zoom in to look at finished sketch. (Zoom back in to edit as desired.)

STEP FIVE
Turn off skeletal layer. Cry at the ugly.

Make more fixes. Like Damian's leg. But it still sucks.

STEP SIX
Lower the opacity of the sketch layer to 50%, choose a different color (I just went lighter this time), zoom in to 100%, and sketch clothes on a new layer.

Fix Damian's legs/feet AGAIN because wtf is going on with them.

STEP SEVEN
Zoom back out to look at the finished sketched clothes. I erased the messed-up feet on layer 2 herp-a-derp. (I also fixed Dick's.)

STEP EIGHT
Lower the opacity of the clothes layer to 50%, create a new layer, and start linearting in black. When I lineart, I'm zoomed in 100%-200%.

Folds on the clothes, how do they work.

Hands, how do they work. Skip to draw later.

DAMIAN'S HAIR, HOW DOES IT WORK.

Damian's jacket is the only thing I like about this so far.

STEP NINE
Lunch. An important step.

STEP TEN

Finish the lineart; zoom out to look at it. I zoomed out to 50% now, which is how big the finished product is going to be.

STEP ELEVEN
Take a deep breath and turn off the sketch layer(s). If all goes well, it should look halfway-decent. If all does not go well and it looks like crap, I just leave the drawing off as a sketch. I give up quickly.

STEP TWELVE

Change the background color! I admit, green was a bad choice, but it was blue at first but then I was like DERP not a good idea because of their eye and clothe colors.

STEP THIRTEEN

Flat coloring. I do the skin and hair/eyes/ on one layer and clothes on a separate layer. ...sometimes I do every single thing on several different layers.

STEP FOURTEEN
Change the background back to white. Attempt to shade. Fail. Give up. Attempt to draw background. Fail. Give up. Resize image. Usually I bring it to 25%, but because I drew this a bit small, I resized it to 50% (2000x1500).

Crop.

STEP FIFTEEN
Cop-out gradient background and you're done!
