Edit an ad

After you want to make changes to an active campaign, ad set or ad, you can edit some of the details (such as images, text or placements). When you edit, you'll see which fields in the campaign, ad set and ad can be updated.

Before you begin

Some details in an ad can't be changed. These include:
  • Campaign objectives: You can’t change the campaign objective when you edit an ad. If you want to choose a different objective, create a new ad.
  • Video ads: If you want to edit your video ads, no matter how minor the changes, you'll need to create an entirely new ad.

Editing in Ads Manager:

  1. Go to Ads Manager.
  2. Click Campaigns, Ad Sets or Ads.
  3. Click to check the box next to each campaign, ad set or ad you want to edit.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. In the editing pane, make changes to your campaign, ad set or ad.
  6. Click Save and Close.
Note: If you're using the updated Ads Manager, you'll need to confirm edits under Review Draft Items.

Editing in Power Editor and updated Ads Manager:

  1. Go to Power Editor.
  2. Click Campaigns, Ad Sets or Ads.
  3. Click to check the box next to each campaign, ad set or ad you want to edit.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. In the editing pane, make changes to your campaign, ad set or ad.
  6. Click Review Draft Items.
If you want to edit multiple ads at the same time, click to check the box next to the each ad name, and then click Edit. If you're using Power Editor, you can also use Excel to edit your ads.
After you edit your ad, your ad goes through a review to make sure it meets Facebook’s Advertising Policies. Most ads are reviewed within 24 hours, although in some cases it may take longer.

What happens to my likes, comments and shares when I edit my ad?

When you edit your ad, you don't have to worry about losing engagement (likes, comments and shares) from before your ad was edited, unless:
  • You're changing photos, videos, or both
  • Your ad is a Dynamic Ad
  • You use an ad post in multiple ads, such as re-promoted ads
  • The ad post was published or was scheduled to be published
Once you edit an ad, the new ad's post and the original post share engagement. This means that once you edit an ad you cannot:
  • Publish or schedule to publish the original or new ad posts
  • Reuse or boost the original or new ad posts
  • View the original or new ad posts on Ads Posts in the Page Post section of Power Editor
If you delete the original ad post all of the engagement made on that post is also deleted, which may impact your ad's performance.
