November 4

New Jersey

Governor: Democrat Mikie Sherrill, a member of the U.S. House, and Republican Jack Ciattarelli, the 2021 Republican nominee, face off to succeed term-limited Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy.
Jersey City Mayor: There are seven candidates running in this all-party primary. If no candidate receives a majority of the vote, the top two vote-getters advance to a runoff on Dec. 2.

Virginia

Governor: Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger and Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears are on the ballot. The winner will become the state’s first female governor.
Lieutenant Governor: This contest includes Democrat Ghazala Hashmi, a state senator, and Republican John Reid, a talk-radio host.
Attorney General: Incumbent Attorney General Jason Miyares, a Republican, faces a challenge from Democrat Jay Jones, a former member of the House of Delegates.

California

Proposition 50: Passing this ballot measure would adopt new congressional maps for the next three election cycles, adding as many as five Democratic-held seats to Congress. It was put on the ballot in response to Texas redrawing its own map.

Colorado

Proposition MM: This measure would raise state income taxes on households earning at least $300,000 annually in order to fund free meals for public school students in the state.

Georgia

Atlanta Mayor: Andre Dickens seeks his second term in the officially nonpartisan office. Four candidates have qualified for the ballot.

Maine

Question 1: This ballot measure would significantly change how the state administers its election, including by requiring photo ID for all forms of voting, shortening the absentee voting period and prohibiting requests for absentee ballots by phone.
Question 2: Passing this ballot measure would allow family or household members to directly petition courts to temporarily prohibit a person from having dangerous weapons if the person is deemed a threat to themselves or others.

Michigan

Detroit Mayor: The officially nonpartisan office is open after three-term incumbent Mayor Mike Duggan chose not to seek reelection.

Minnesota

Minneapolis Mayor: Incumbent Mayor Jacob Frey faces a crowded field, including a challenge from his left from state Sen. Omar Fateh, in this ranked-choice election.

New York

New York City Mayor: In addition to Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa, Democratic primary runner-up Andrew Cuomo is contesting the general, too. Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams dropped out but will remain on the ballot.

Ohio

Cincinnati Mayor: Incumbent Mayor Aftab Pureval and Cory Bowman, the half-brother of Vice President JD Vance, are running for the officially nonpartisan office.

Pennsylvania

Supreme Court retention elections: These three retention races – in which voters choose whether to grant a justice another 10-year term – have implications for the balance of power on the state Supreme Court. Currently, Democrats hold a 5-2 majority. All three justices on the ballot this year are Democrats.
Pittsburgh Mayor: After ousting incumbent Mayor Ed Gainey in the primary, Democrat Corey O’Connor will take on Republican nominee Tony Moreno.

Texas

18th District: Rep. Sylvester Turner died suddenly on March 5. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott set the special election to coincide with the 2025 general election. All candidates run on the same ballot, and if no candidate receives at least 50% of the vote, the top two vote-getters advance to a runoff.
Proposition 15: This measure adds language to the state constitution affirming that parents are the primary decision makers for their children and bear the responsibility to nurture and protect their children.
Proposition 16: This measure adds language to the state constitution explicitly stating people must be citizens of the United States to vote in Texas.
December 2

7th District

The winner of this special election will serve out the remainder of former Rep. Mark Green’s term in the Middle Tennessee district, which includes rural areas as well as parts of Nashville.
