Syracuse athletics director John Wildhack says the latest November swoon and failure to achieve a 7-5 regular season record led to firing football coach Dino Babers. The move was made a day after the Orange dropped to 5-6 following a loss to Georgia Tech. The program has one last chance to become bowl eligible in closing its season hosting Wake Forest this weekend. The Orange wasted a strong start for a second straight season by losing six of their past seven. Wildhack says he informed Babers of his expectations to win seven games before the season and reminded him of that objective last month.

Dustin Hopkins kicked a 34-yard field goal with 2 seconds left after Cleveland rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson completed four straight clutch passes, giving the Browns a 13-10 win over the rival Pittsburgh Steelers. Thompson-Robinson made just his second NFL start and rallied the Browns just days after Deshaun Watson was lost for the season with a shoulder injury. Last week, Hopkins kicked a 40-yard field goal as timed expired to beat Baltimore 33-31. The Browns have now beaten the Ravens and Steelers in consecutive weeks for the first time in 15 tries. Pittsburgh's Jaylen Warren rushed for 129 yards and had a 74-yard TD run.

(21 Nov 2023) Ucrania conmemora el martes el décimo aniversario de las protestas conocidas como la Revolución de la Dignidad, que provocaron la huida del entonces presidente Víktor Yanukóvich a Rusia.
A Hawaii official says all nine people aboard a U.S. Navy plane that overshot a runway have escaped injury. A U.S. Marine Corps spokesperson said Monday that the P-8A aircraft overshot the runway at a Marine base and went into Kaneohe Bay. Another spokesperson says the Coast Guard responded but that rescue operations were quickly called off. The P-8A is often used to hunt for submarines and used in reconnaissance and intelligence gathering. It is manufactured by Boeing and shares many parts with the 737 commercial jet. The base is about 10 miles from Honolulu on Oahu.
New York’s highest court has upheld a New York City law that forbids police from using chokeholds or compressing a person’s diaphragm during an arrest. The New York Court of Appeals issued the ruling in a unanimous decision on Monday. The city’s law came as governments across the country prohibited or severely limited the use of chokeholds or similar restraints by police following the death of George Floyd in 2020, which occurred as a Minneapolis police officer kneeled on his neck for several minutes. The Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York, along with other law enforcement unions, had sued city over its law, arguing it was vague.
A state lawmaker from Brooklyn has been accused in a lawsuit of raping a woman early in his legislative career when he went to her home to discuss disaster relief efforts for Haiti. The lawsuit was filed against Sen. Kevin Parker on Friday. The woman accuses the Democrat of assaulting her in 2004. She said in the suit that she had been working with Parker to coordinate the delivery of items and donations to Haiti after a devastating flood. The suit was filed under the Adult Survivors Act, which is a state law that created a yearlong suspension of the usual time limit for accusers to sue. A spokesperson for Parker did not immediately comment.
Massachusetts announced plans Monday to let homeless families stay overnight in the state transportation building in downtown Boston. The move comes as officials scramble to find shelter spots for newly arriving families after hitting a state-imposed limit of 7,500 families in the emergency homeless shelter system. Officials say the space located in the office building is large enough to provide overnight shelter for up to 25 families with cots and limited amenities, and will only be used in the evening and overnight hours. As of Friday there were 92 families on the state’s waiting list for emergency shelter spots.
A New York-based climate watchdog says the French oil company TotalEnergies is failing to protect the sanctity of hundreds of graves in a controversial project that aims to build a heated pipeline from oil fields in Uganda to a port in Tanzania. In a report released Thursday, GreenFaith charges that TotalEnergies failed to respect local customs and traditions related to the graves, distressing local communities in Uganda and Tanzania. The report is the latest effort by a growing list of campaigners who urge TotalEnergies to pull out of the project. The ecological fragility along the pipeline's route is another reason why some activists oppose the project despite TotalEnergies’ safety assurances.
Several of the area’s state and federal representatives Tuesday joined more than half of all U.S. governors in calling to repel Syrian refugees after the ISIS-backed attacks in Paris.
