Olaf Storbeck

Frankfurt Bureau Chief

Olaf Storbeck is the FT's Frankfurt bureau chief and ECB correspondent, covering monetary policy and European macro economics. From 2017 to 2024, he was the FT's Frankfurt banking correspondent and part of the FT's investigative team that dug into the Wirecard fraud. He is interested in white collar crime, whistleblowing and corporate governance. A passionate cyclist, he also loves to write about the cycling industry.
Before joining the FT, he worked as a London-based columnist at Reuters Breakingviews for five years where he was named Reuters Journalist of the year in 2015 in the commentary category. A German citizen, he started his career at Germany's business and financial daily Handelsblatt after graduating from the Cologne School of Journalism and studying Economics at the University of Cologne.
Olaf was part of the teams which in 2020 won two Loeb Awards ('Breaking News’ and 'investigative') and the Press Gazette British Journalism Award in the Best Business Journalism category.
