SAX-7/L1CAM acts with the adherens junction proteins MAGI-1, HMR-1/Cadherin, and AFD-1/Afadin to promote glial-mediated dendrite extension
- Elizabeth R. CebulArthur Marivin Maxwell G. Heiman
- Biology, Medicine
- 2024
It is found that a PDZ-binding motif (PB) in the SAX-7 cytoplasmic tail acts with other interaction motifs to promote dendrite extension, and it is proposed that an AJ-like complex in glia promotes dendrite extension.
Building an Artificial Stem Cell Niche: Prerequisites for Future 3D‐Formation of Inner Ear Structures—Toward 3D Inner Ear Biotechnology
- S. D. de GrootKaren M SliedregtP. V. van BenthemM. RivoltaM. Huisman
- Engineering, Medicine
- 2019
An overview is provided, by describing the general context in which cells, matrix and morphogens cooperate in order to build a tissue, to facilitate research in 3D inner ear technology.
Phrase mining of textual data to analyze extracellular matrix protein patterns across cardiovascular disease.
- D. LiemSanjana Murali Jiawei Han
- Biology, Computer Science
- 2018
The present study is the first application of a text-mining algorithm to characterize the relationships of 709 extracellular matrix-related proteins with 6 categories of cardiovascular disease described in 1,099,254 abstracts, and revealed unexpected insights underlying the key ECM-related molecular pathogenesis of each CVD.
Ordered arrangement of dendrites within a C. elegans sensory nerve bundle
- Z. YipMaxwell G. Heiman
- Biology
- 2018
A method to quantify the arrangement of three dendrites in the main sensory nerve bundle is developed, and it is suggested that differential expression of CAMs allows dendrite order to self-organize into a stereotyped arrangement that readily gives rise to new patterns when perturbed.
The role and regulation of cell matrix adhesions during contact inhibition of locomotion
- A. Roycroft
- Biology
- 2017
A rapid disassembly of CMAs is shown to be dependent upon the formation of N-cadherin based cellcell adhesions and driven by Src and FAK kinase activity and leads to a redistribution of intercellular forces from the substrate to the cell- cell contact and is essential to drive cell-cell separation after a collision.

The origins of the molecular era of adhesion research
- A. R. Horwitz
- Biology, Medicine
- 2012
Major progress was made in the late 1970s to late 1980s with the identification of the major families of adhesion molecules, including integrins and cadherins, which set the stage for the explosive growth in adhesion research over the past 25 years.
Blood groups and disease: a historical perspective.
- G. Garratty
- History, Medicine
- 2000
It is reasonable to conclude that individuals belonging to the different blood groups are not equally viable, and it is possible that in some conditions, infectious or otherwise, they would depart from their normal frequencies, indicating that persons of a particular blood group are unduly susceptible to the disease in question.
