Since 1893, when Vidal 1 observed and recorded the first case of "keratodermie blenorrhagique," only fifty-eight cases have been described and Vidal detailed a generalized and symmetrical eruption of cornified crusts with falling of the nails, associated with a urethritis and polyarthritis of gonorrheal origin.
A comparative roentgenologic study of rheumatoid arthritis and rheumatoid (ankylosing) spondylitis.
Among the features showing the greatest differences were the frequency and degree of involvement of individual joints, sacroiliac damage, abnormalities of apophyseal joints, paravertebral calcification, abnormalities in the shape of vertebral bodies, and pelvic periostitis and osteitis.

The radiological appearances in patients with Reiter's disease have been compared with those in eighty-one with rheumatoid arthritis and thirty-eight with ankylosing spondylitis, and changes of periosteal new bone in the calcaneum appear to be the only significant differentiating factor.
