ABOUT US

Angels of Heaven was founded in January 1999 - something we are extremely proud of. AoH was founded by members of the Original VC Andrews Fan Club: Kimmi, Samantha, and Shay with extra help from our friends Jill and Jamilla. Thus putting our heads together, we came up with a way for fans to have another outlet to utilize their knowledge of VC Andrews' books. Now not only do we have fan clubs but roleplays as well. With the help of such board members as Lisa, Tara, Marie, and Julie, we have grown and become not only one of the best V.C. Andrews roleplay on the internet, but we boast our extreme organization and quality membership.

V.C. Andrews roleplaying caught on quickly and has become a major part in the way fans can interact and "become" the characters. It started with two major roleplays and now anywhere you look on the web, you can find a different one. Through the years, AoH has never lost its integrity nor its love for the characters. It has remained one of the best roleplays on the web.

Take a look at our website, check us out, and decide if you would like to be a part of a roleplay that stresses creativity without losing the integrity of the characters and storylines, develops and thrives on writing skills, and just has fun delving into the mind of VC Andrews.

Thanks for visiting AOH, and enjoy your stay!

RULES

We know this may seem like a lot of information to take in (and it is very important that you do take the time to read it all) but once you give it one read over, you will see that it's not as much as it looks like!

1. JOINING:

In order to join, you will have to fill out the form and send your response by email to aohboard@yahoo.com or post it in the public entry located at aohptb. Please put "AOHLJ Application" in the subject. Emails without proper identification will be void.

See the Join Rules for further details.

2. YOUR PERSONAL ROLEPLAY JOURNAL:

If you are accepted, you will need to make a roleplay-only journal. (Example: http://www.livejournal.com/users/rubylandry). You are not required to make one for each character however you are more than welcome to. You will need at least one (1) personal character journal (not your personal real life journal please) for roleplay posting capabilities.

As long as you remain active roleplaying in the AOHLJ journal, you are not required to update your personal character journal(s). However, you are more than welcome to do so. If you opt to do this, we suggest that you post the personal thoughts of your character(s). Do not post anything that would directly affect your roleplaying scenes, as no one is required to read your character’s journal.

Please note that your roleplay journal is not where you will post roleplay scenes. See section 3 for further details.

Be sure to “join” AOHLJ and AOHLJOOC with this new journal once your membership has been approved by the Board. Once that has been completed, make certain you add both journals as “friends” also. You must be a member of both to see actual roleplay posts.

No drama! Keep the drama in your own personal journal away from the roleplay. Roleplay and real life are kept separate please.

3. THE AOH LJ:

This is where you will post for your character.

Please post once every other week at the minimum to remain an active member. See activity rules.

Posts may not have wild fonts and crazy colors. Please leave the fonts alone and let the AOHLJ override it with its default settings.

Please do not select mood nor music when posting to the roleplay.

To ensure that all members are comfortable here at all times, any scenes which can be considered to be sexually explicit MUST be made as a new scene, in a new post, and put behind an LJ-cut. Ensure you re-name the link with "AOH R-RATED SCENE" so that the reader knows what they are clicking.

Remember: You have to be accepted in the roleplay as a member by following the join rules before you will be given access to posting.

Any single character may not be in more than one scene at a time.
Example: Annie cannot be at Luke’s and Farthy simultaneously! Be a bit more realistic!

Your character posts should be locked as Friends Only (as noted above) so that only members can see this. Posts unlocked will be deleted and counted as inactive,

Scenes must not continue within the comment thread. Comments are strictly limited to positive enthusiasm (“Great post!” “It made me cry!” “How sweet!” etc.) You may not give criticism, constructive or otherwise!

Outside characters cannot jump into pre-planned scenes without permission from those involved in that particular posting. Again, this can be discussed on the AOHLJOOC journal before assuming you are welcome into a scene. Otherwise, regular interaction is encouraged!

You can only roleplay your own characters. NO POWERPLAYING! If a character is taken, you cannot speak for them. Each character must have the chance to play themselves to their full extent, which means there cannot be any other character barring their way. But, if a character isn't taken, you can "insinuate" speech for them.

You can insinuate for another character to fit your needs as long as they are not taken. The only characters you are fully allowed to give speech and actions to are "invisible" characters such as waiters, bellhops, chauffeurs, salesmen, doctors, and nurses. If you have any questions about this rule, which is a very important rule, email The Board privately.

The AOH definition of a “one liner” has been slightly altered over the years. As it stands now, the minimum acceptable posting length is approximately half a page written in MS Word using Arial/Times New Roman 10 point font. Anything less, on a regular basis, could be subject to disciplinary action.

Subject lines for each post MUST begin with your series name and include your character’s name as mentioned below. (Example: Landry / Ruby).

LJ-CUTs must be used for your actual post. The cut must be given an appropriate title. See below.

3A. HOW TO POST

You must:

1. Go to http://www.livejournal.com/update.bml
2. Subject line should be your series name and your character name. Example: Landry / Ruby
3. Your post should be typed behind a “cut.” The “cut” subject should be the title of your post.
Example:

4. Once your post is ready, spellcheck it!
5. Now, under “Security” please choose “Friends.”
6. Enter your series name under “Tags”. (All lowercase please).
7. Do not select mood nor music please.
8. You are ready to post it! At the bottom of the update screen, look for “Post to.” If you have joined AOHLJ properly, you will be able to use the dropdown menu to select “aohlj.”
9. Once you have chosen “aohlj,” click “Update Journal” and it will appear in the AOHLJ journal.

This will become MUCH easier after your first few posts, once you become more familiar with posting to livejournal versus email posting.

4. CHARACTER SPECIFICS:

A) BIRTHS AND DEATHS
No creation and no deaths. If a character has not died, then they cannot be killed. Nor can a character that is already dead "re-die." No creations means no new births/children not in the books.

B) CHARACTER
Be true to the character as it is in the books. When it comes down to your character, you should know them well enough to know what they would or wouldn't do. I.E. You should be familiar with who your character dated, hated, loved, loathed, their hobbies, their occupations, etc. If ever you have a question, please email The Board.

C) DIVORCES
Divorces are prohibited…unless a character does divorce in the book. If, for instance, a character remarried after a spouse's death and you would like to play them with their "current" spouse and want to go through with the divorce, please email The Board for express permission. This is mandatory!

D) MARRIAGES
This holds true for marriages also. Two characters may not marry unless we know for certain that they were going to be married in the books. Such as some books leave off saying "so & so" got married and lived happily ever after. In that case, the marriage is allowed only. An engagement doesn't necessarily always count. Also, think realistically before deciding to do something that is off-the-wall. Again, please be cautious and email The Board to find out if it would be allowed or not.

Exception: Marriage will be allowed for minor characters that we know nothing about. However it is only allowed for back-story purposes and the spouse may not be part of any major storylines.

Violations to any of the above Character Rules may be subject to immediate removal.

5. OOC LJ:

AOHLJOOC will be for storyline discussion ONLY. No personal discussion please.

No spamming, forwards, or chain letters of ANY kind.

Please lock all posts here as Friends Only.

Problems should be directed to aohboard@yahoo.com.

6. INACTIVITY:

The AOH weeks falls from Sunday - Saturday (a normal week). All characters must post a minimum of once every two weeks at aohlj Any roleplayer that goes inactive consecutively will be given a first warning, a second warning, and will then be removed if that roleplayer fails to contact us during that time with a solid reason for inactivity, and fails to post for their character(s). Furthermore, any member who develops a disappointing pattern of inactivity can be placed on probation, for a period of six weeks standard, at the decision of the Board Members. This is not a joking matter, and may very well determine said member's future with AOH.

Please note: Not receiving an inactive notice does not indicate that you were not inactive.

7. NETIQUETTE

We ask that when you begin roleplaying, you use patience and netiquette when posting. Please always allow two weeks for the person you are posting with to reply. If they have not posted by the end of the allotted time, you have permission to continue without them (in a new scene post). During the "waiting period," if you feel your character may be listed as inactive, please notify your CM and The Board immediately to let them know you are waiting for someone to post. Remember: Although you might be online every day, most people are not!

8. SPELLING / GRAMMAR

Please check for spelling grammatical errors. This makes it easier to read.

Fandom speak will not be tolerated!

9. QUESTIONS/COMPLAINTS/CONCERNS:
If you have any complaints, please do not to post them in AOHLJ or AOHLJOOC. Report them to aohboard@yahoo.com.

If you ever decide to leave, please tell email us at aohboard@yahoo.com. Do not post it in the AOHLJ or AOHLJOOC communities. A bit of notice would be appreciated but is not necessary.

10. JOIN FORM:
Don't forget, to show you have read the rules, you must use the phrase "Ruby Dooby Do" somewhere in your join form! Join emails without this will be void and will go unanswered.

FAQ

1. How do I choose a character name?
Look at the list of Available Names on the website to see who is not taken. Choose two names and fill out the join form located below or on the website after reading the rules.

2. How do I join?
To join you need to go fill out the join form.

3. What's an Audition and why is it required?
To ensure your knowledge of the character, all characters require an audition. In the past, we have had people take characters that do not really know all that much about the character they chose. It has caused some major problems. If you do not know your character, how can you expect to roleplay as him/her? Our roleplay also strives for "good, quality" posts that are very detail-oriented. We take this roleplay very seriously when it comes to how people write and roleplay. This is for the benefit of our members who work very hard to maintain their characters as well.

4. How do the Auditions work?
The audition will ask you to "roleplay" for the character you chose to see your writing/roleplaying skills. This takes place via email. Ruby is in charge of arranging for prospective roleplayers to take auditions. She will be your first contact with anyone in the roleplay. The process takes several days and once you have completed your portion, it can take up to as much as 2 weeks (MAXIMUM) for the Board Members to score you and for you to get a response. We try to do it as timely as possible.

5. I have read the rules and sent in my form, now what do I do?
Be patient. Ruby will contact you shortly with details about the character of your choice(s). All characters will require auditions.

6. I want to roleplay with members from another series, is it possible?
No. We like to stick to the same series so we don't give out spoilers for other series.

7. What happens if I break a rule?
Depending on which rule you break, the consequences will be different. If a major rule is broken, first we give you a warning. If it happens again you will be suspended from the list and the roleplay. Third time you're out and your character is up for grabs.

8. I want to be a second character, is that allowed?
Yes. As long as the following criteria is followed:

• You MUST ask The Board first.
• Those who violate this and join as multiple characters without express permission will result in IMMEDIATE removal.

9. I want to switch to another character, is this possible?
No. Once you start playing (that is, once one roleplay post has been sent by you) you can no longer switch. The only way you can switch is if it's within the first week you have signed up. Within this first week, if you have sent NO emails to the list and decide you want to switch, email The Board and let them know what's up.

10. I just joined but I don't know what's going on in my series. How do I start playing?
When you join, the Cabinet Member (CM) from your series should email you and fill you in on the plot lines. You may not post your first roleplay post until you have heard from your CM. This way, you will know your character's history and what the other members of your series are doing so that you have a chance to jump in. Another helpful thing to do is wait a day or so to start posting. Read some of the emails your series sends out and get a feel for where people are and what they are doing. It's not polite to interrupt so make sure you don't jump into a plot too fast.

11. I posted, but no one has responded yet. How am I supposed to play if the person I'm talking to doesn't write back?
Sometimes people aren't online as much as we would like them to be. If you and another player are posting and you haven't gotten a response, please don't assume they have stopped posting. Give them at least a week to respond. If after a week, no one has written back to what you wrote, let The Board know.

12. I want to be more than one character in the same series. Is this allowed?
It is allowed. As of May 2005, you are allowed to have no more than 2 characters per series. If you are interested in this, please contact a board member for more specific rules.

JOIN INFORMATION

Please read all below to learn how to proceed to the Join Form.

If you would like to be a part of the roleplay, please read everything below before filling out the form.

-References-

You must provide a reference in order to take an available character listed on the Character List in bold on the website. Those not bolded do not need references.

There are only 2 ways you can be referred:
A) An AOH member who has been in our roleplay for over six weeks. (Please provide their character name and email address)
B) An owner of another roleplay you are a current member of. (Can be any type of roleplay, not necessarily VCA. Please provide the owner's email address as well as the name of their roleplay and website URL if applicable.)

Why are references necessary for some characters? In the past we have had members come and go. We've had members join as one character then anonymously joins as another character which is against the rules if caught without permission. We have also had trouble with people filling out "fake forms" and submitting to join, in the end wasting the Board's time. References for certain characters are necessary to join Angels of Heaven simply because we prefer quality over quantity. Though the join process also requires tests and auditions, by allowing us to check with a roleplay owner or current member of AOH we are thus ensuring the quality of our members and this roleplay.

If a form for a character listed in bold on the Available Page is sent without a reference it is considered VOID.

We appreciate the many emails we get saying: "I have read all the series and I want to join as *fill in the blank* but I have no reference." However there are NO exceptions. We will happily provide you with links to other roleplays that do not require references. After you have obtained membership for six weeks in another roleplay(s) and you would like to try to join again, by all means, please do so.

-Auditions-

You may only audition for three characters in a six month time period. We are strictly enforcing this. This does not affect current members.

For those joining, to prove you have read this, please type "Ruby Dooby Do" somewhere in your join form that will be mailed to aohboard@yahoo.com or posted in the public entry listed at aohptb.

If you understand and meet all the above requirements, proceed to the Join Form.
