Wonder Woman
Gal Gadot stars in the title role of 'Wonder Woman,' an epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins ('Monster,' AMC’s 'The Killing') marking the DC Super Hero’s first-ever stand alone feature film.
Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, raised on a sheltered island paradise and trained to be an unconquerable warrior. But when an American pilot crashes off their shores and tells of a massive conflict rageing in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside men in the war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full power and her true destiny.
Characters
Wonder Woman / Diana of Themyscira
One of the world’s greatest and most powerful Super Heroes, Wonder Woman is a fierce Amazon warrior with incredible strength, grace and wisdom, who is unparalleled in hand-to-hand combat. Her arsenal includes her lasso, shield and sword.
Before she is Wonder Woman, Diana is an Amazonian princess, living on the mystical island paradise of Themyscira, training for battle and mastering skills like archery and sword fighting.
Steve Trevor
Captain Steve Trevor is a courageous American fighter pilot performing dangerous undercover missions in World War I. Captivated by the Amazon princess Diana, he helps her navigate the human world and fights alongside her in battle.
Etta Candy
Captain Steve Trevor’s loyal and indispensible secretary, Etta Candy, is a woman ahead of her time. Working from the War Office, she proves an invaluable asset to Steve and Diana’s mission.
Hippolyta
Hippolyta is Queen of the Amazons and mother of the young princess, Diana. A noble leader, she hopes to teach Diana that her mind is her most powerful weapon.
5 key weapons and accessories brandished by Wonder Woman: the Lasso of Hestia, which compels anyone in its grip to speak the truth; enchanted, bullet-deflecting wrist Gauntlets; the unbreakable sword Godkiller; a Shield that protects and defends; and Diana’s iconic and treasured Headband.
38 locations spanning two countries—the UK and Italy—where Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins swept cast and crew to capture the film’s action and drama against authentic backdrops in Italy’s Amalfi Coast, Happy Village, Matera, and Castel del Monte; and the UK’s Victoria House, Australia House, Sicilian Avenue, British Museum and Tilbury Fort.
3 Ruffians—a 'liar, a murderer and a smuggler'—whom Steve enlists to help Diana reach the frontlines of the war to end all wars in her quest to protect humanity from Ares— top undercover man Sameer (Saïd Taghmaoui), Scottish sniper Charlie (Ewen Bremner), and accomplished Native American smuggler The Chief (Eugene Brave Rock).
Description
Patty Jenkins directs this action adventure film starring Gal Gadot as the eponymous DC Comics superheroine. Raised on the island of Themyscira, young princess Diana (Gadot) has been trained in the fighting ways of her fellow Amazon warriors, despite the best wishes of her mother Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen) who sought to shield her from combat. As she begins to learn the true extent of her powers, Diana and her fellow Amazons are thrust into battle when American pilot Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) crash-lands just off the shores of Themyscira, pursued by the might of the Germany military. When Steve tells them about the First World War, raging across the world, Diana suspects the god of war Ares, whom Zeus has protected the Amazons from, has returned and sets off to London with Steve to put an end to the bloodshed of the Great War.

'THE NEW 'WONDER WOMAN' MOVIES FROM THE DC SERIES COULD BE THE JEWELL IN THEIR CROWN IF THIS RELEASE IS ANYTHING TO GO BY'
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 October 2017We saw Gal Gardot make her debut as Wonder Woman in the recent Batman/Superman movie, this almost certainly
a great beginning for her as a super-hero in her own rights.
This one all starts in present-day Paris when Diana Prince receives a photographic-plate which shows her during WW1
which prompts her to reflect on her early years and indeed self-imposed mission to try and end the war to end all wars.
It all starts on the hidden island of Themyscira home of the Amazon women which was created by Zeus who also leaves
the gift of a child to Hippolyta - Diana (who will one day have the power to defend mankind against the gods)
The island is solely occupied by the Amazon women, Diana will grow up knowing nothing of what lies beyond the shores
of Themyscira....as a child she craves to learn the skills of the Amazon warriors who she watches train..at first her mother
who has told Diana the history of her race is reluctant to include the eager young princess in the training however Hippolyta
eventually agree's to let her sister Antiope train the youngster.
During 1918, Diana now a young woman rescues an American pilot from the sea when his plane crashes...Steve Trevor
(Chris Pine) is the first man she's ever seen....trouble is he has been pursued by a German gunboat, the soldiers from the
boat launch an attack on the shores of the idyllic island, the Amazon women aided by Steve attack the intruders, though
victory is achieved sadly the encounter costs the life of Antiope.
In the days that follow Diana learns from the airman of a horrific war he describes as the war to end all wars, remembering
what she had been told by her mother she assumes that Ares is responsible not really understanding that man is more that
capable of going to war without any encouragement from the gods, and decides that she would go to London with Steve
and try to bring an end to the conflict by destroying Ares.
Which really, after the base-line is where the story begins -
London is a strange place for Diana, she has trouble understanding many things including the apparent domination of the
male species (the early sequences in London do bring forth many comical moments that stem from Diana's naivety with
the way things are beyond the shores of the island she'd lived at all these years)
Steve an under-cover agent is assigned the task of trying to prevent the deadly gases being developed by Dr Maru for use
against the allies...with a small team to help he sets off to thwart the effort, of course Diana insists on joining the quest
in the hope that she can kill who she believes to be responsible for the war.
On the western-front in Belgium they find themselves in the trenches, the indestructible Diana puts new meaning into going
over-the-top into no-mans land, facing an onslaught of gun-fire she races across the open mud plains, of course Steve and
his team feel obliged to follow.
Along the way they will liberate a Belgian village, is romance in the air between our heroes ?
They will learn of a gala being held close-by at German High Command, Steve and Diana infiltrate proceedings hoping it will
get them closer to the stocks of Gas being produced to turn the tide of the war.
When the village they'd liberated earlier comes under attack they realise the factory is close-by...
Steve will make an heroic attempt to stop a plane loaded with gas-bombs reaching it's intended target whilst Diana seeks out
who she believes to be Ares hoping to put a stop to the war, however after the fight the real Ares reveals himself to her, he
seeks an alliance but Diana sticks with her intent to destroy him, though, she will have to learn the skills she has been given
quickly if she is to prevail against the might of Ares.
The film with Diana's reflections follows her path from childhood to that of a super-hero.....the film is actually somewhat better
than many of the super-hero movies that has gone before it.
With good action sequences and superb use of special-effects it is certainly worthy of a viewing if you love the super-hero movies.
More are planned...will look forward to them.

Better than The Dark Knight
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 December 2019I didn't know what to expect from Wonder Woman but it is highly recommended and I love super hero movies especially in DC world.
I don't usually like two hour movies after the tedious and boring The Dark Knight but Wonder Woman - now that I what I call a great movie. The beginning of the opening scene is the origins of Diana which makes sense because it fits into the story of how she adapted up to the 21st Century spotted by Bruce Wayne (played by Ben Affleck from Justice league). The Plot and movie is well-paced and action packed, full of climax and keeps you at the edge of your seat to see what happens next. Chris Pine is terrific as a Soldier who discovered Diana played by Gal Gadot who is a very powerful lead and has to be to carry the movie, she is breath takingly gorgeous (the camera loves her), great screen presence, smart, brave and strong character and the Actress protrays her very well. Both Chris and Gal had chemistry and equalised without one upstaging the other. Despite this superheroine had incredible abilities - she made mistakes, she had disillusionment, she had disappointment like no other DC Character but tries to be better. It's not one of those movies where it's just numbskull and things just blow up, a lot of thought process got into the movie. The only predictable fraction was the "pleasures of the flesh" scene and where it is going to head off to but all in all I made a great decision watching this movie and very much worth the hype. One of my Fav movies that is up there with Superman 1, and 2, Batman 1989, and Batman Forever.
I give it 9/10

At last a really good WONDERWOMAN from Warner Video.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 December 2017I don't usually write reviews for Current/new films as there is little I feel I can add to any information. (Also at time of writing there are apparently 432 other reviews.) However, I enjoyed this version of the "Wonderwoman" myth so much I thought a few notes about the DVD might help. Of course the transfer (DVD) is gorgeous, Wide screen, bars top and bottom, with excellent sound, optional Subtitles, but strangely only one Special Feature. I would have expected a bit more, even tho extras aren't a priority for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the film mainly because of a surprisingly excellent lead in Gal Gadot - when Diana Prince smiles, so do I, and the screen lights up. There is real humour and heart and the support cast (Lucy Davis in particular) all excel. Filmed on a huge scale, where the CGI don't dominate as they do in so many current blockbusters. That is not to say that the SFX here aren't good. They are!. The plot is well written and directed, but if I have one quibble I thought the climax was just a bit too spectacular and drawn out and David Thewlis is good and miscast (see the film)(Personal Opinion only). Highly recomended for the whole family.

Diana's story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 October 2017The best known Super Heroine from comics once had a tv series of her own. But a big screen version, despite once being in the works, never came to pass.
Until now.
Part of the current run of movies all set in DC Comics fictional universe, having seen Batman Vs Superman will give you a little background to the opening scene, but you won't get lost if you haven't.
Bruce Wayne wants to know Diana Prince's [Gal Gadot] story. Which she remembers. In one long flashback. Born on the island of Themyscira. Daughter of the Queen of the Amazons. Diana was always destined for great things. Regardless of what her mother wanted.
When man's world intruded, as American Pilot/Spy Steve Trevor [Chris Pine] comes crashing into Diana's life with the enemy in hot pursuit. World war one is raging, and Diana sees this as the work of the Amazon's arch enemy Ares, the god of war. Setting off with Steve, Diana intends to do the role she feels she was born for, to kill Ares and bring an end to war as a result.
She has a lot to learn....
It's nice to see a film where those involved have clearly taken the time to get the script right first of all, and this really shows. As does the director's clear vision for the project. It doesn't take too long on telling her origin story. Instantly Chris Pine is on screen he and Gal Gadot have great and charming chemistry. And the resulting journey through the narrative in their company is a pleasure.
Genuine humour comes from character interaction, thanks to an excellent supporting bunch. The World War one setting is very well rendered, and since it's not something you see on film as much as world war two it does feel original and different.
Diana goes on a genuine heroes journey, growing and changing and learning as she does. And Gal Gadot simply makes the role her own. Anyone familiar with Diana from the comic book page will tell you she should be strong, a brilliant warrior, determined, full of endless compassion and sympathy, and always prepared to do the right thing. And that's what she does here. All superbly conveyed by the leading lady, who does bring the gamut of experiences and emotions she goes through to life superbly.
The first two action set pieces are superbly done, the second being one of the best in this kind of film ever done. It does perhaps lose a little focus in the third act when it has to resolve things and bring them all together. But that's only a minor complaint, because for one thing this film is far smarter with it's plot devices than you might initially expect.
Great escapist blockbuster entertainment, and a film that the character fully deserved. Well worth five stars.
Some scenes do have subtitles. Which cannot be turned off. And there are no extra scenes during or after the end credits at all.
The dvd has the following language and subtitle options:
Languages: English, Castilian Spanish.
Subtitles: English, Castilian Spanish, Danish, Finnish, Greek, Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish.
It comes with the usual flyer with code to download copy of the film onto digital device.
The disc goes straight to the main menu when loaded with no trailers or ads.
Extras:
DVD owners get just one featurette: One woman's vision: Diana in the modern world. A four minute long talk with the director about the period setting and how it was brought to life. Which is a fascinating talk, so like all such featurettes these days, you end up wishing it was longer.
Subtitles: English, Castilian Spanish

4k or not 4k
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 October 2017I have given 3 stars because I ordered this movie hoping to watch it in 4k a lot more than I would normally spend on a DVD. Unfortunately my TV although a 4k Sony bravia won't play the disc I had to watch it in normal mode, you may think this is not the fault of the film makers, with this I would disagree before purchase information should be made available to what specifications are needed to watch a 4k movie, there seems to be different types of 4k around. The movie is an excellent watch I really enjoyed it just got problems with the 4k.

Highest Grossing Superhero Origin Movie Ever!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 December 2017What. A. Film.
Firstly, I have such admiration for the creators behind Wonder Woman as it has become the highest grossing superhero origin film...ever and Patty Jenkins, the film's director became the highest paid female director. That itself, I find amazing.
From the perspective of a professional Cinematographer, this film is beautifully shot and the CGI is pretty incredible, my favourite scene will always be Diana's embark across No Man's Land, you can find a clip on YouTube or just grab yourself a copy of the film ;)
The narrative has been interpreted and developed by Patty Jenkins so well, I never got lost or distracted as everything you see is directly related to the character development of Diana. The addition of comedy rounds off the film nicely because as interesting as the mythical world Themyscira and Greek Gods are there's only so much you can learn without it being a documentary, it is entertainment after all. The romantic story is dealt with so delicately by Jenkins, it focuses on the true meaning of love but only as a side story, with the main premise being the values of Wonder Woman.
I could not commend this film any higher, it not only exceeded my expectations but those of many others and I am sure the sequel will do the same. I admire this film so much I am exploring it's values along with the representations of women in the Mass Media in an essay for my Bachelors degree!

* No Spoilers* Good (Comic book conversion) action film.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 October 2017The Story line is simple enough, thanks to Jack Snyder team who had previous success with the 300 films. The components of the story (Mythology, comic book lore etc.) were appealing enough. There was a good amount of action to keep the film moving along. Acting wise, they all do a good enough job - Gadot, Pine were ok and the side kicks also. But for me, Ewen Bremner as Charlie, who's character was intriguing added a solid note. As for Thewlis playing the role of Sir Patrick was a tad understated - allowing himself to 'Ham' in parts might have been down to 'loose' direction and which is a pity.
Special effects were aplenty - CGI ever present though some scenes a tad stilted (fluid motion of some action fight scenes), but Im just being picky.
Overall an enjoyable watch...though the duration of the film is a tad too long as a few 'void/filler scenes' were unecessary.
