grr - I hate O'Hare
made it home to Michigan, after much difficulty, and it's 50 degrees and raining. Which means, if it was only twenty degrees colder (like it SHOULD BE IN DECEMBER) it would be snowing.
So arrived at O'Hare airport yesterday for my connection only to find out all flights to Kalamazoo were cancelled. It was foggy. Anyway, after waiting in line at the customer service desk for 2 hours I find this out, and that there are no flights to anywhere else in Michigan either. My best bet is to be put on the standby list for the first flight out the next day. And as the cancellation is due to weather, the airline doesn't pay for hotel. Yep. So, after consulting with my mom I remembered the commuter train - the South Shore Line - goes from Chicago to northern Indiana, and there's a stop about an hours drive from my mom's house. So I took a cab to the train station - gave the cabbie a nice tip because he got me there through rush hour traffic in time for the 7:15 train - and took the 2 hour train ride to Michigan City, IN. Cost: $7.70. I got in after 11:00 because my younger brother was kind enough to drive an hour to pick me up.
Glad I did so, because this morning the news was that no flights were leaving O'Hare because of more fog. So I'd still be there.
Funny thing is, my suitcase made it to Kalamazoo before I did. It was put on the last flight out of Chicago - there was apparently a flight that left while I was waiting in line. Of course. Grr.
Anyway, I made it here. This morning I went to the airport and picked up my suitcase. Took a nice bubbly bath and now I'm going to go out shopping with my brother.
Later, the update about the guy whorents rented our basement apartment.
