Missing class
I hate missing class for any reason. We get behind in the course calendar, the students are irked when they show up and I don't, I don't like how poor attendance must look to the department coordinator, and let's not forget that if I don't teach, I DON'T GET PAID!
Well, this morning I woke up with one of my splitting migraines. I actually have medication for this, which I promptly took. It didn't work. Instead, the headache intensified. I can usually work through a migraine if I need to, but not when I'm nauseous, too. My stomach started doing that thing that it does that tells me I have about thirty seconds to get down on my knees in front of the porcelain god or else! Sure enough, I heaved up the medicine I just took, and afterwards, the headache was worse than ever.
I was left feeling rather like I had been run through a garbage compactor, so I sucked it up and called in and asked the department secretary to post a sign on my classroom door. She was very gracious about it. We have a lovely department secretary.
I then took more medicine, climbed into bed, and slept away the morning and the better part of the afternoon. I'm feeling much better now (except for what I call "headache hangover"), but I imagine I'll be painfully reminded of today when next payday rolls around.
Ouch.
Oh, and the first round of papers came in over the weekend. Guess what I'm doing now? Thank goodness for essay rubrics, otherwise I'd lose my mind.
