Maldives Customs Service has seized 3.2 kilograms of narcotics attempted to be smuggled into the country via post.

Customs said that the drugs were discovered during a routine inspection of a suspicious postal package. Further examination confirmed the presence of illicit substances within the shipment.

According to Customs, the seized substances tested positive for cannabis, weighing over 3.2 kilograms. The seizure was made on Saturday.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the case, and it remains unclear whether any arrests have been made in connection with the shipment.

There have been numerous previous attempts to smuggle drugs into the Maldives through the postal system, a trend that has seen a recent uptick.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant, noting that innocent individuals have previously faced criminal allegations after agreeing to collect suspicious packages on behalf of others.
