Miracles start at UCSF. As one of the first in vitro fertilization programs in the San Francisco Bay Area, we are a recognized leader in the field with consistently high pregnancy rates.
The first UCSF IVF patient was treated in 1983, and in 1984, the first UCSF IVF babies were born to couples who shared in our role as forerunners in providing assisted reproductive technology. We were also the first in the area to achieve a pregnancy and birth through the use of intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), an innovative technique that requires just one sperm for every egg that is fertilized.
