Title
The Marin "Share The Road" Program: Share the Road-Save a Life - Home
Description
Awareness: The goal of this component is simple: introduce the phrase “share the road” into the everyday vocabulary of Marin County. Program actions in this area include the deployment of a fixed number of road signs in strategic Marin locations, the distribution of some 10,000 "Share The Road" posters, the use of bumper stickers on private and public service vehicles. Other methods of promoting the "Share The Road" message will be introduced as the program expands (view examples).
Education: This is a long-term public education campaign. The program is based on the belief that, when given clear and useful information about what it means to effectively “share the road”, Marin residents and visitors (both bicyclists and drivers) will begin to alter their on-the-road behavior in favor of increased courtesy, cooperation and safety.
Enforcement: This is the job of local law enforcement. The program advocates accurate and timely reporting of “road incidents” by both drivers and cyclists. When a law has been broken, the local law enforcement agencies will take appropriate action. The program also encourages the local media to publish timely reports on the outcome of all such law enforcement actions.
