How it all got started...
The beginnings of my endurance sports training were on the soccer fields as a kid. I could run all day long and never get tired. I began my triathlon/multisports career in college, while earning a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Systems Engineering. Running and cycling were a primary mode of transportation to and from classes and in my final year I took a swimming class to fulfill a gym requirement. In May 1986, just prior to graduation, I competed in my first triathlon. I was hooked. From 1986 through 1988, while working full-time as a computer engineer, I competed as an age-group athlete. During the 1988 season I competed in a number of the USTS events in the "pro/elite" division and managed a few top five overall finishes and won a few local races outright. In January of 1989, after realizing I could compete with the "pros", I decided to try make a living as a "pro triathlete". From then through 1996, I did just that. I started coaching and guiding athletes with their training on a limited basis in 1993 and made the transition to full-time coaching in 1997. I work with athletes of all ability and experience levels.
Coach/Athlete Interaction
Your schedule will include all workouts, strength training, your heart rates, perceived efforts, power outputs (if available), paces and times. However, the real key to a effective coaching is the interaction between myself, the coach and you, the athlete.
Feedback is critical. The more open the line of communication, the more I am able to meet your needs. Training is a dynamic and constantly evolving process and what worked one year may not be optimal the next. I try to help you develop your own ability to make the right training decisions.
