Guided-Wave.com has online optical measurements to process analytical chemistry

Title

Guided Wave Process Analyzers

Description

Guided Wave was founded in 1983 and introduced its initial product, the world's first commercial fiber optic spectrophotometer, the following year. The "Optical Waveguide Spectrometer" permitted spectroscopy on materials without sampling. Light was carried from the spectrometer to the sample through optical fiber rather than carrying sample to the spectrometer. In situ measurement of chemical composition by optical fiber spectroscopy remains a central theme of our business to this day. We have over 20 years experience solving process analytical problems from simple to complex and from the engineering laboratory to the manufacturing plant.

Since its initial product release, Guided Wave scientists and engineers have contributed many significant improvements to the technology of fiber optic spectroscopy. The Wall of Patents in our conference room documents many of these contributions. Guided Wave was the first to introduce an optically efficient fiber optic multiplexer. The multiplexer permits a single analyzer to monitor multiple locations, greatly reducing the per-point capital cost. A fiber optic cable construction that greatly reduces the effects of fiber movement, temperature and other environmental factors on the signal transmitted through the fiber is another important contribution. Other innovations include brazed windows for process probes, optical designs making probe transmission immune to temperature excursions and vibration, and a fiber array spectrometer.

Guided Wave operated for a number of years as a wholly owned subsidiary of Perstorp AB and later of UOP LLC. It has operated as an independent, closely held corporation since 2001. The purpose of the company has remained constant even as ownership changed: providing high quality tools for process analytical chemistry to the refining and chemicals industries. We strive to work with customers in a committed partnership to tackle the toughest analytical tasks. Our goal is to meet the challenges head-on and offer solutions that are reliable, safe and cost effective.
