In the spring, summer and fall, tourists flock to the region to enjoy swimming, canoeing and fishing in the clear Canadian Shield lakes, and exploring the pristine forests. While known as a popular summer cottage area, the Highlands are also very busy in the winter. Many snowmobiling clubs maintain well-groomed trails in the region all winter long. Ice fishing is also a favourite activity, and there is a downhill ski resort in the area as well.
