Description
Dr. Frank Gaetano Morales was born in Brooklyn, New York in August, 1963. Dr. Morales has been studying and practicing the ancient tradition of Yoga spirituality for over 30 years. His dedicated interest in self-realization began when he first read the Bhagavad Gita, the most important philosophical text of the Yoga tradition, at the tender age of ten. A philosophically inquisitive child, Dr. Morales began collecting and reading a vast number of books relating to spirituality and Yoga. He also proceeded to practice various forms of Yoga, pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation soon after this first encounter with the Gita. At the young age of 14, Dr. Morales visited a Hindu temple for the first time. So awed was he with the majestic beauty and spiritual power that he encountered in this temple that, on the spot, he decided to devote his life to the path of Hindu spirituality. After living the highly disciplined life of a celibate monk for six years, Dr. Morales was ordained as a brahmana (a spiritual teacher and priest) in 1986. His Sanskrit name is Dharma Pravartaka.
In addition to being an accomplished practitioner, Dr. Morales coupled his personal spiritual practice with rigorous academic training. With a Philosophy major and a Theology minor, Dr. Morales earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago in 1994. While there, he studied the intellectual and philosophical foundations of Western civilization under the tutelage of Jesuit (Catholic) professors. In May of 1999, Dr. Morales earned a Master of Arts degree in South Asian Languages and Literature. In December of 2002, Dr. Morales earned a Ph.D., summa cum laude, in Languages and Cultures of Asia at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As a scholar, Dr. Morales specializes in Philosophy of Religion, Sanskrit, Hindu Studies, and History of Religion. He has written for numerous academic journals and anthologies, as well as presented talks at numerous academic conferences. Dr. Morales has guest lectured at over two dozen universities, including: Northwestern University, University of Illinois, Cornell University, University of Michigan, Wayne State University, University of Iowa, Illinois Institute of Technology, University of Virginia, University of Houston, Rutgers University, and many others. He has also served as a consultant for many major corporations, including Ford Motor Company and Lucent Technology. His first book "Experiencing Truth: The Vedic Way of Knowing God" is scheduled to be published in 2006. Dr. Morales is working on another book entitled "Embracing Transcendence: The Bhagavad Gita's Teachings on Yoga". He is currently an Adjunct Professor with Antioch University.
In addition to his many academic achievements, Dr. Morales has initiated a large number of projects designed to educate the public about the profound insights of Yoga spirituality. He is the founder/advisor of the Yoga Students Association (YSA) at the University of Wisconsin. The DHARMA CENTRAL web site was launched onto the Internet by Dr. Morales in October of 1998, and is today one of the largest web sites dedicated to Yoga spirituality on the World Wide Web. In 2004, Dr. Morales launched Dharma News Network, the only Yoga-based Internet news service on earth! Currently, Dr. Morales has formed the American Institute for Yoga Studies (AIYS) as an educational institute dedicated to teaching the world about the benefits of spirituality, meditation and Yoga. Dr. Morales is also the President of the American Hindu Association.
