- With the enactment of Electricity Act - 2003, the power sector is set to create tremendous changes. The new regulatory environment facilitates private participation and competition in the Generation, Transmission and Distribution of power. Generation is being de-licensed. Captive Generation is being freely permitted. The Act envisages trading in electricity and open access in Transmission and Distribution areas. The tariff is no longer decided by SEB/Govts. as in the past. The views of the consumers and suppliers are considered to ensure equity and fairness while deciding the tariff and other issues by the State Electricity Regulatory Commissions.
