It was named for Cheshire, England. The county seat is West Chester and it is the wealthiest county in Pennsylvania. Chester County's borders were Philadelphia County to the north, the Susquehanna River to the west, the Delaware River to the east, and Delaware and Maryland to the south. Chester County's quality education and award-winning schools exceed national averages with higher graduation rates, higher standardized test scores and higher rates of college admission.
