- People often assume that I like dolls – a typically girlie sort of thing. Nothing could be further from the truth. As a young child I was disgusted if someone gave me a doll for Christmas or a birthday, and, from the age of around four, my mother secretly whispered to all of our friends and relations never to give me a doll for a present. I savagely cut the hair off one of my dolls in an act of both boredom and defiance.
