Accommodation in Aachen

Important Notice

The Housing Advice Service does not own or manage any rooms or apartments, nor do we function as an agency that connects housing providers with students. Our role is to offer information and guidance on navigating the Aachen housing market and to answer any questions you may have about accommodation. Ultimately, the responsibility for securing a place to live based on our recommendations lies with the students themselves.

If you’re preparing to study or conduct research in Aachen, it is essential to begin your housing search as early as possible. RWTH Aachen University does not provide student dormitories, and while there are guest houses available for doctoral candidates and visiting researchers, space is very limited. To assist you, our Housing Advice Service for International Students and the Welcome Center for International Researchers are here to guide you in finding suitable accommodations.

Each winter semester, RWTH welcomes over 9,000 new students, as well as hundreds of new employees and visiting researchers. With such high demand, finding affordable housing in Aachen can be challenging, particularly as the semester approaches.

We strongly recommend starting your housing search 2-3 months before your planned arrival. This proactive approach will increase your chances of securing suitable living arrangements.

RWTH offers a small number of guesthouses located directly on campus for overnight stays by doctoral candidates and visiting researchers. However, these options are in high demand, and early reservations – ideally several months in advance – are necessary. Bookings must be arranged through your host institute. Be sure to contact your institute representative well in advance to check availability.

For additional options, various private listings for temporary and furnished apartments in Aachen are available on the Wohnen auf Zeit web portal. These listings can be a practical solution for short-term or flexible housing needs.
