About Goldfieldite Subgroup
Formula:
(Cu4(◻,Cu)2(Cu4Cu+2)((Te,Sb,As)2Te2)S12S
Initial incorporation of up to 2 Te4+ for (Sb,As)3+ in the D-site is accompanied by a concomitant replacement of M2+ (typically Fe2+ or Zn) with Cu+ in the C-site to maintain charge balance. Additional incorporation of Te is accompanied by the development of up two vacancies in the A-site.
Member of:
Biagioni et al., 2020 propose a series for Te-rich members of the tetrahedrite group where 1 apfu < Te < 4 apfu; tetrahedrite (sensu lato) group minerals with Te < 1 apfu belong to the tetrahedrite or tennantite series (depending on whether Sb>As or As>Sb).
Tetrahedrite (sensu lato) group minerals with Te > 3 apfu are goldfieldite (sensu stricto). Group members where 1 apfu < Te < 3 apfu will receive new names; tentatively "stibiogoldfieldite", Cu6(Cu4Cu+2)(Sb2Te2)S12S, and "arsenogoldfieldite", Cu6(Cu4Cu+2)(As2Te2)S12S, have been applied.
