Named in honor of Ian Douglas Hutcheon (1947 - March 26, 2015), a cosmochemist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, California, U.S.A. He made many contributions to the isotopic studies of meteorites and dating of extraterrestrial material.
Type Locality:
Chemically very similar to paqueite. Also similar to grossmanite.
Probably a product of Fe-alkali-halogen metasomatism of primary minerals forming a Ca-Al-rich inclusion (CAI) in a chondrite.
