Named in 1907 by Friedrich Ludwig Wilhelm Kolbeck in honor of Albin Weisbach [December 6, 1833 Freiberg, Saxony, Germany - February 26, 1901 Naunhof, Saxony, Germany] systematic mineralogist, professor of physics and professor of mineralogy at the University of Freiberg, who named about 27 minerals.
