About Aragonite GroupHide

Name:
After the principal species in the group.
Orthorhombic carbonates. The cations are arranged in the structure nearly in the manner of hexagonal closest-packing, yielding marked pseudo-hexagonal symmetry, as illustrated by their angles and by the mimetic twinning characteristics of these species.

Only partial solid solution substitutions of cations extend between the members of this group at ambient temperatures. A complete series extends between Strontianite and Witherite at elevated temperatures.
