Named by R.T.M. Dobbe, W. Lustenhouwer, and M.A. Zakrzewski in 1994 in honor of Cornelis (‘Kees’) Kieft (Limmen, 29 September 1924 ‒ Heemstede, 6 February 1995), Dutch geologist and mineralogist, for his contributions to ore mineralogy.
