The world's economically most important chelonians represent a diverse species complex (Testudines:
Trionychidae: Pelodiscus).
Family
Trionychidae.--The eastern spiny softshell turtle (Apalone spinifera, ISUVC #4108) was the only trionychid we found.

Of all the freshwater turtles and tortoises that are consumed, softshells (Family
Trionychidae) are considered the best, due to the low bone-to-body ratio and the larger proportions of cartilage and gelatinous skin.
The testudines is represented by the families
Trionychidae and Geomydidae in the park.
Trionyx, a modern genus of the family
Trionychidae; a small crocodilian is also represented.
