I don't know if everyone remembers the times when they were new at submitting here. I think everyone should.
The guidelines suggested how to do things properly, but most people learned the ropes by way of checking submissions and how things were done by others. I did anyway. And by advice and input from experienced users.
I would like to thank some of these whom I learned a lot from back then.
XXXLLL; substance16 for the first batch of votes and suggestions on Peel Sessions releases, and sebfact specifically for the Joy Division / New Order related ones; ChrisCrass for something about LCCN and being patient; semascus; edotetsuo; seppuku; ApeAstbury for giving me the first and very well deserved EI; swagski; Eviltoastman.
I learned a lot from many other users later on, but the above mentioned were my welcome committee.
Some are still active, some I've never crossed paths with since.
I remember them and I'm grateful for all the help and teachings. -

I think this tread should be pinned. Its a nice addition to discogs and will help the climate here on the site, ther are a lot of positivity but many users feel attacked when reciving votes and ther are not enough apriciation for the users that help others. Me myself could be better at showing appriciation for the ppl who do a lot of good here. I'll try to come back with a list of ppl who I think have learned me a lot here.
Edit: this could be a good tread to post in when someone helped you. So they get the recognition they deserve for taking the time out of their day to do that -

I gave maskingsound eye cancer according to him with my bad photography of unedited records( I am an award winning photographer, so it is sort of funny to me)
They might be very artily taken, but they could certainly be improved for the database. Here images are for two main purposes: identification/matching of an exact version of a release, and to be able to read as much information on them as possible. The maximum displayed width of images in Discogs, no matter how high-res are the uploaded originals, is 600px. It's therefore important not to include any surround that isn't needed for either of those purposes: so please crop your images to show only the labels; no blank or generic (not release-specific) company sleeves and no surrounding disc surface. And please rotate them so that text is horizontal! Otherwise they are needlessly difficult to read. See RSG §13 for some guidelines about best practice for images. Thank you! -

You and others like mossinterest, steelydave, nik, and sebfact, among many, have helped me from the very beginning to navigate the often muddy waters of Discogs. It is my wish that other recording engineers would take an active role here and contribute their inside industry knowledge. It would help us to build an even better and more accurate database. The thing that irks me most is those who jump in and try to take over; often appointing themselves the king. Then trying to impose their interpretation of the guidelines as a set in stone rule. My personal belief is that they are true "Guidelines". By being guides and not laws the opportunity to expand important and significant knowledge while applying common sense and good judgment allows for a more creative and comprehensive collection of information. All the darn nitpicking that goes on is only counterproductive and childish. After all, it is the very thing that brings the majority of us here...the love of music an all things relative to its creation and sharing. -

I've had this album for many years, but it occupies my section of albums yet uncatalogued on Discogs. Glad to see someone made an entry, and really nice work with all the details. This is a beautiful album that shifts very adeptly and fluidly between foreground and background, and presents a lot of images of liminal space. -

I learned the hard way. Stubbornness and run ins with other users. Not a great start. I'm a lot more relaxed in my older age......a lot more!
HaHa!! That sure was me too!
He's gone now, but Curiopete took a lot of time, comments, messages and yes, finally NMC's to straighten me out.
i've still got some of his messages saved in my mailbox.... -

Special thanks to brianvy with his incredible matrices shared knowledge which helps a lot in narrowing dates.
A lot of users helped me with their comments in forum or submissions: Eviltoastman, Fauni-Gena and many others I can't remember their nicks now: Thanks! -

Show this postbig up to _jules, for having un-blocked this 3xlp version of ’INCredible™ Sound Of Drum'n'Bass Mixed By Goldie’, on the marketplace ! the issue was the result of a new support request, probably better than mine (after one year, better than never...) !
cheers, _jules’ -

This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this postJoining this thread because the topic reflects how I feel about Discogs.
Ten years ago I was an active contributor to "Rate You Music" database. That was necessary because very little Classical was in that database when I started and there was not flexibility in their schema to support the level of detail required to manage a large collection on line.
Now I have started the process again on Discogs. I joined last year, became active a few months ago, and have so far added 3,333 items from my collection. All but a handful of releases were missing and had to be added. Eleven million listings gives excellent coverage in nearly every genre.
Best of all, the web site is fast and reliable. New contributions (additional releases and edits) are visible to searches right away, typically a few seconds.
And I haven't even mentioned the Marketplace. Yes, it has the same high quality as the rest of the site. It's a well-thought-out protocol to connect buyers and sellers with enough states to prevent most misunderstandings. Works for me. -

This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this postThis is a really nice thread; I only joined last September after returning to the UK and before I left we barely had the internet; an online place for my collection, matching owners with 'wants' and monetising, wow! Seeing all my old CDs and inherited vinyl again was a little overwhelming; onto the 'cloud' they all go and then it's a little exciting when I need to create a new sub - "no-one's got this!!". So thank you to those who have helped me along from my first edit or contribution, and I suppose for those who weren't so kind with their words I've learned from them too. When the 'you now have voting rights' email came through I knew I'd made it in the world, the best I can do is try to get things right first time, and pay it forward by helping others with a smile on my face. Thanks to my parents (you WILL love The Beatles when you're born) and my favourite weekend job ever, Trumps Records Hornchurch this is coming in a close third in terms of music history knowledge. PopMaster here I come. Thanks all, be patient, be kind and Happy Friday! -

Jayfive, StaticGuru, Opdiner, nik, ChampionJames, Kerry and syke helped me cut my teeth among many others. Latter day, the help and input I got from everyone in the CD matrix thread was invaluable - too many people to mention.

For the last time, sir, your dental bills are not my responsibility, I don't care how strongly your attorneys feel about the matter. -
