From the Inside Flap
"Genoa's first novel is a seriocomic romp through time and space as his hero tries to save the world from losing both its future and past. A procession of oddball characters, including a blind monkey and a quirky pair called Boogedy and Nibbles, adds to the humor in this tale of a reluctant hero and his call to duty." - LIBRARY JOURNAL
"Wild, fearless and wickedly clever, Foop! fireballs through time and space to find a future that is as absurd as it is heartbreaking. The more you read of Chris Genoa, the more you realize he's not content with just tickling your imagination along with your funny bone--gosh darn it if he isn't also making a play for your soul. Wonderfully dark. A terrific read. An inspired debut." - NICK SAGAN, author of Edenborn and Idlewild
"Chris Genoa is one of our authentic literary lunatics, and the irrepressible Foop! offers irrefutable proof of his salutary madness. When they lock Genoa away in the booby-hatch, I hope they give him lots of pens and plenty of paper." - JAMES MORROW, World Fantasy Award-Winning author of Towing Jehovah and Blameless in Abaddon
"For some reason, more and more young writers are producing dystopian novels. Chris Genoa rides the quest of this wave with weird humor, great characters, and descriptions of time travel so accurate that you'd think he's actually traveled through time. Well? Have you, Chris?" - NEAL POLLACK, author of The Neal Pollack Anthology Of American Literature and Never Mind The Pollacks
"Chris Genoa's Foop! is a superbly surreal and wickedly wry rollick through the space-time continuum. With a talent for hyperbole reminiscient of the late Douglas Adams, Genoa stretches surreality to its snapping point and succeeds in delivering a hilarious debut novel." - TONY VIGORITO, author of Just a Couple of Days
"I must say this was the weirdest book I have ever read...The whole book is just crazy, bizarre, at times insane, but it is definitely something I couldn't put down...By the end of the book, I was wondering what paths I have chosen and how my choices have affected others...a definite must read." - SFFWORLD.COM

Christopher Moore but Not
Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2007Format: PaperbackIf you like Christopher Moore books than you will definately like this one. Different writing style but equally entertaining and hilarious. Thank god I have another author who's capable of creating a light, funny book on a consistent basis. Less time to wait between books when you have two of them going. Great debut book i hope the next one is just like it.

Interesting...
Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2010Format: PaperbackFrom the beginning of this book, I was completely engaged! It was surreal, comic, and almost felt like a text version of an animation. However, the story indulges itself as it progresses and loses focus. I read the first half in a few days and the second half took me a month to get through...

Unrewarded tedious work of a read
Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2009Format: PaperbackOK, I was drawn to this by comparison. I like oddball, offbeat authors. This was a disappointment. It never actually got anywhere. This reads like a stream of consciousness that went unedited. I have to say this is a first effort and is worthy of an undergraduate writing program. But, I don't understand why they had to published it. I say read this author's 4th book. He should have it by then. If you are the author, throw away your next three books and start working on the 5th. I'd like to see more stories developed in the subtext. Try reading Robbins or Ruff, you'll have more fun.

Disturbingly Addictive
Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2005Format: PaperbackThis book is the literary equivalent of a circus freakshow. Within the first few chapters, I knew that I hated the book, but I found myself unable to put it down.
This book is extremely disjointed. The writing style is awkward. The underlying theme jerks from cynicism and self hatred to blind optimism and longing. The content is often unsettling (including a few scenes that only a proctologist could read without cringing). The characters are deeply disturbed and over-the-top and the story line is held together as tenuously as the seams in Rosie O'Donnell's stretch pants.
All of that said, the book is oddly addictive and darkly entertaining. I think that if I come across another Chris Genoa book, I'll probably buy it, read it and then feel extremely guilty for having enjoyed it. In fact, I would probably feel the need to burn it and never speak of having read it.
This certainly isn't in the genre of Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett (unless, of course, they have some unpublished works that were written in a turkish prison while under the influence of LSD).
If Chris Genoa isn't currently undergoing psychiatric counselling, he's depriving the mental health community of an excellent study case.

funniest time travel book I've ever read!
Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2005Format: PaperbackThis is the best, and funniest, novel that I've read in a long time. Joe, the main character, really makes the book. I'm a sucker for self-deprecating characters that are a bit out of their head and really love the way that Joe describes his world. Highly recommended!

One wild ride; but to where?
Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2006Format: PaperbackWell, I just finished 'FOOP' and it was quite a trip but overall I was not impressed. I enjoyed parts of the book and found some sections were very creative and funny.
I should say that I like offbeat and unusual writers and humor- Jasper Fforde, Tom Holt, Neil Gaiman, Liberty Meadows, Monty Python come to mind, but this book was like an aimless road trip. Holt and Gaiman can take you to other places while providing a touchstone of familiarity, not to be confused with reality. Python twisted the everyday into something bizarre but something you could, in a weird way, relate to.
This book has some elements of that style of humor but bounces around and seems to be searching for an ending. But heck, maybe that's the point; it is a time travel novel. If you want to read a creative, but flawed first book, give this a try; just don't expect Pynchon, Pratchett, Holt, Python, or Jasper Fforde.
For a great time travel book, try 'The Man Who Folded Himself', by David Gerrold, that is an awesome read.

On a good day maybe 4 stars, but not today.
Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2007Format: PaperbackHere is what happens in this book. odd, odd, odd, hahaha, cricket, cricket, cricket, over and over. There are some very funny parts, some very odd parts and some very boring parts. Then the anti climatic ending left me feeling ripped off. There were several times that I was reminded of Robert Rankin and Chuck Palahniuk but it seems as if there was no follow through in his thinking.
